- Jan 24, 2009 11:33 AM - permalinkBumblebeeRNThat's awesome! Sounds like a great plan you are working on. And if for some strange reason you don't get accepted to BC for the program-- which you have a high chance of getting in for sure-- apply to the other schools too, or keep taking classes untill you get accepted somewhere. Never give up on anything. And yes, the drive to BC from south miami really stinks-- but I did it, and I would always leave the house early around 7am, be there by 8am and have time to go to the library or have breakfast with classmates-- I like BC better than MDC anyways :0)

AA's consist of 60 credits, that include classes such as statistics, english 1&2, nutrition, chemistry with lab, microbiology with lab, humanities, etc. etc. I followed the program at Miami Dade College, and got my diploma from there.I started BCC, finished, and a year after graduation I started the FIU program online, which by the way, I did not have to take any extra classes because I already have my AA.The nursing program at MDC, and BC are considered AS, associate's in science-- which means it's a specific program-- for example, you don't have to take nutrition, or statistics to attend that program-- but you do need it for your AA.for your AA in nursing you have to follow their program==like in the AA program sheet it says that you need a 3rd english, and it gives you 3 choices, for nursing you have to take speech class SPC-- if you take another, it doesn't matter, you still have to take the pre-nursing one.I know that at BCC they don't have this, or maybe they do, but I never saw it, but at mdc once you log in to your account to pick classes, you pick the major that you have, and for me it was pre-nursing so it gave me a check list of the classes I needed to get my AA.If not, you should go to the BCC website, and look at the program sheet for pre-nursing AA, and it will give you the classes that you need in order to go to FIU.when I started FIU, I was so surprised I did not need any classes, I thought I would have to take some pre-reqs but nope. THey took my AA, and my AS-- so I started taking the RN-BSN classes right away.If you don't have a diploma that says Associate's in Arts in your hands, then you don't have an AA, and you have to get one before starting the RN-BSN at FIU. It doesn't matter if you have the Associate's in Science one from nursing. The first semester at FIU was very easy, I had 2 classes, and both consisted of writing and writing and writing. And it was very organized because I knew ahead of time when and what my assisgments were. This second semester, it is organized, but I have to study for tests! no writing! For one class, I watched 2 videos, and the quiz of 2 questions was on those videos, I made notes but it was 2 hours! so how am I supposed to remember details! let alone the questions I got were 2 details that I did not remember, so next week I will pay more attention.FIU is the only public university that offers RN-BSN program here in miami--- believe me, I would of love to go to class and have someone explain to me things, meet new friends in the program and get out of the house for sometime--- but I did not want to go to UM or barry they are too expensive, keiser has a program too but online and it's keiser so lots of $$$ for online school too.FAU has an RN-BSN program in their davie campus next to bcc--- but there is no way that I am gonna drive all the way to broward again while I can do FIU online. Nova has classroom too but that is too expensive..........so FIU came down to be my only choice. whenever I need books, I just drive to the boostore 15-20 mins away, if I need anything on campus, it's just a short drive away.I wish you the best of luck at BC-- study hard and you will mak it! :0)
