They gave us a scenario about a plane crash, survivors, and need to prioritize who you would either send on a raft to get help, or keep on the island. All-in-all, it was totally ridiculous and really put me off on the school. I had a person in my group who, for some reason, was really intimidated by me, and argued with everything that came out of my mouth!! The best thing you can do is to try to say as little as possible (since there is someone sitting there "grading" everyone's response), and just give input when you ABSOLUTELY are certain about what you are saying.

In the "personal" interview - you will go into a room with 2-4 faculty, and it's VERY nerve-racking. I wasn't prepared because had been told we wouldn't have to go through a "formal" interview, but just be paired with an alumni to talk with and that it would be a really laid-back type of deal. AGAIN, don't get carried away: say as little as possible and just answer their questions without too much elaboration. They will ask you why you want to be a nurse, why NOW, why Georgetown, what you plan on doing with a BSN, what are your general plans as a future nurse, etc. DON'T SAY TOO MUCH, and appear almost "grateful" for their allowing you to interview in the first place.

Another thing is that they REALLY PUSH that Washington Hospital Program - they must be getting huge kickbacks from the place. The first question they asked me when I went into the room was if I had gone on the tour, and the woman who was in charge of that program (who happened to be one of my interviewers) immediately said "No!" They hold it against you if you don't plan on doing that program. SO, go on the tour and CLAIM that you plan on applying to that scholarship.

Bottom line is that I felt so totally demeaned and intimated by the whole process that I made up my mind NOT to go there the minute I left the place. In addition, they won't let you substitute courses you've already taken - you HAVE to take 18 units a semester no matter what. Art, Philosophy, Computer Science, whatever! And, you know how they will not tell you how much the tuition is, and just refer you to the Undergraduate Bulletin? It turned to be WAY more than all of thought - $68,000 BASE tuition, without all the "extras." That kind of "forces" you to apply for the Washington Hospital thing. But I thought it was really crappy that we didn't know exactly how much the tuition would be until the interview.

BUT, you may love the place! Just be prepared to be grilled during your interview. Plan on not saying ANYTHING that looks like you don't agree with their mission statement, or you want to be a revolutionary in Nursing by focusing on the patient instead of the system. They want people who are committed to being a part of the medical system as it is TODAY, not making any changes that will benefit people in the long run. Even the four students who came in to talk to us said the same thing - not to believe what the school claims they stand for, because they DON'T.

Hi! I read your description about the interview at Georgetown for the Accelerated BSN. I am actually going to mine in a few weeks for the August '09 start. Do you have any pointers or ways you think I could be more prepared? What in the world kind of scenario did they throw at you? The other schools I applied to (i.e. IU), don't even interview. I'd appreciate any words of wisdom. Also, did you end up being accepted?! Thanks!
