Thank you so much for the information and encouragement! I appreciate all of your help! I will definitely apply and see what happens!
Good luck with classes! I'm sure I'll be back very soon with more questions!
- Whoa long message!! Lol. I'll will try to answer everything.
*I really have no clue on how many people applied, they really don't go into detail with us on those things.
*Again, they don't go into detail but personally speaking I had a 3.0 cum but I think they really look at your upper division GPA. you've got nothing to lose. The most they could say is no, and that's how I saw it and they still accepted me.
*I can say one thing we have alot of high strung individuals in our nursing class, but for the most part alot of really nice diverse people. In ages, it varies. This class had alot of people who just graduated from undergrad about 2 weeks prior to starting the program. We only had 2 older people in the ages of over 60. I'd say the average was 27. Alot of people who came into the program came from the bistate area. I was the only one from MIAMI. But others were from around the country. Many people degrees were related to medical like biology, chemistry, but that doesn't mean anything. Others were film makers with masters and everything. We had a girl who was a cop. Etc.
I like your profile. Alot of similiarities to me. I am from Florida, graduated from the University of Florida(pretty sure you've heard of the Gators) Majored the same thing you did, except it was called Health Science Education with a conc. in Community Health. I know about Camp Boggy Creek, it's near Gainesville where I went to school. So, your info really shows that you're diverse and that's what I did. Throwing the fact that you're Native American or East Indian(You didn't clarify which one) makes you seem to be very diverse and that's what they like. Heck, I said that I was Haitian and they loved me. Put in your personal statement the personal issues you went through and how you overcame them. If you can get someone who knows you real well, have them put that in your recommendation, how you overcame those issues too. It helps. They see that you're really trying to be a better person. I put what happend to me and why my GpA is not all that, so I would suggest you'd do the same.
Alot of girls came from your school who majored in the same major as you. Maybe you know them. Olivia Lang, Laura Unes, etc?!
Just apply, trust me. If you want, you can send me your personal statement and I can read it for you. I know what it feels like to apply and not know what to do.
If you have any questions shoot! - Jan 13, 2009 11:46 PM - permalinkbutterfly04Hi ditacy81! Thanks for replying to my post! I have some questions for you: *Do you know how many people applied to the program and how many were actually accepted? *What was the average GPA of the accepted students? *From talking to your classmates, what kind of students were selected? Older? Local? People with/without much medical background? Etc... Here's a little info about myself...let me know how good my chances of getting in are... I'm 22 years old...I will have completed my BS in Community Health with a concentration in Health Education and Promotion from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Big Ten school in central IL)..During high school I volunteered at a local hospital and rehab center and realized nursing was for me...I went on to become a Certified Nursing Assistant and worked at a hospital while in college which further solidified my decision to pursue a career in nursing...working as a CNA has given me the opportunity to see how the nursing world works and I love every minute of it. I am so excited about nursing school and can't wait till the day I can start working as a nurse. My future plans consist of getting my masters and one day becoming an Nurse Practitioner. Some of my major volunteer experiences include a medical mission to Costa Rica and volunteering my time as a camp counselor at Camp Boggy Creek, a camp for terminally ill children in Florida. My GPA isn't stellar but this is due to some personal issues I experienced during my first few semesters of college. I don't believe my GPA does a good job of showing people the kind of person I am. And I'm of Indian descent ( I don't know if that matters but I thought I'd throw that in there too!)
