Hi Ria21, I was fortunate to have a senior faculty member who got in touch with CRUDEM. Founded in the 60's by Brothers of the Sacred Heart in Montreal. They instituted many of the changes- then turned the task over to the govt of Haitii and a group in Mass took on the challenge. It is a Catholic run organization and I"m not pleased about that. (I'm the HIV nurse and think that condoms should be out there....) Another non-religious group to google is "Helping Hands for Haiti" but they are more in the PAP area. (Port au Prince.) We were much more northern and even more impoverished in Cap Haitain/Milou. Think about going through your local church, hospital, even Doctors without Borders. It is so poor and destitute that we don't even have true numbers about who lives there/has HIV/dies in childbirth. They keep records via pencil and a fill in chart. Kid you not. Do let me know if I can give you more info......

Thanks for sharing your experience in Haiti. It really touched me and put things in perspective. I would love to visit Haiti someday as you and your faculty did. How did you go about doing that?

Thanks for your post on "dangerous nurses." I'm not only an RN but an ovarian cancer survivor! I have had 4 rounds of chemo & 1 of radiation since initial dx. in 1992. Seems I am headed for another round of something as last Fri. my CT showed an enlarged lymph node in (R) axilla. I have worked F/T through the last 2 rounds of chemo & the 8 weeks of rad. The nurse I wrote about was a real @$$ to me as well as another military RN who loved to say "I just hate civilian RN's; they get away with everything." Nurses still eat one another up, unfortunately. Anyway I am glad to know that you're in the field and HELPING!

Would love to. Bought a house 6 yrs ago for 285K. Have put thousands into it. Due to terrible market, just re-apraised for 262K. It's because we have 3 foreclosed homes on our street alone- and I live in a decent area. Only if Obama performs miracles and the market improves could I move back... sigh. Grateful to have 2 jobs and not in foreclosure. Not in dire straits like so many. (But still cold...)
