I guess having to deal with only 1 patient at a time, usually, and not working 12 hour shifts makes it somewhat easier. However you have to take into consideration what your case load will be and whether or not you have to take call in addition to full time hours. Sometimes a patient can be physically demanding if there are wounds to be dressed, trach care, due to their size or being demanding. Hospice nurses have to have a heart for the dying and their families, compassion and a strong sense of self to be able to help others as they pass on to the next life. It helps to be comfortable with your own mortality and death as a part of life. I hope this helps in some small way. I will be happy to expound if you need more info, as I'm sure others will also. Good luck.

I had been thinking about trying hospice nursing and hoping it would not be as physically demanding as other areas I have worked in,because I have R.A.,FM.,and some other good things. I've experienced a newfound compassion due to these and some other life changing experiences in the past year especially. Again,I apologize. Michelle
