Thanks. I finally spoke to a recruiter last week and he has to check into the process of going from the reserves back on to active duty. I took your advice and contacted the nurse education and ulitization office. I sent an email to a Maj and she sent it on to a Lt Col. I'm confused by her response because she said I would be a competitive category transfer, but the AFI sounds like that's just for AD Line Officers to AD nurse. When you were going thru the application process, where you a drilling reservist or in the IRR? It seems like being an Line officer Reservist and trying to go AD as a Nurse is very confusing to everyone!

I'm another O3 (intel) thinking about going back on active duty and looking for advice...I graduated with my BSN this past May and started working, but was recalled back to active duty (I tranisitioned into the reserves when I separated). Do you feel you made the right move going back on active duty? I understand that I'd have to go thru NTP, but I was wondering would I come in with my current rank and TIS? I've already completed SOS and am actually just over a year out from my first Major's board...not that that's the most important thing but it's a consideration. I've heard the promotion rate for nurses is slower, and am just curious how it would all work out for me. Any thoughts/advice you have would be greatly appreciated!

I noticed you had to enter the AF at a reduced rank. I'm currently in nursing school and was a prior O3 (space/missiles). I contacted a recruiter last week and he said I could keep the same rank and time in service when I enter as a new BSN grad and then onto the NTP. Preferably, I would gladly take a rank reduction because when you walk into your unit with the nursing badge and capt. bars, expectations will be quite different than 2nd Lt.

You have a unique background due to working as a civilian nurse first before entering active duty. What are the differences in workload? What other officer expectations are present outside of your afsc (additional duties, club memberships, volunteer requirements)? Should I work in a civilian hospital before joining? Thanks for the info.
