- The residency is 6 months in length. You must be flexible in order to make it through the program. During the 6 months you work days 6:45 A - 7:15 P 3 days a week. You may work weekends as well depending on your preceptors schedule. You will rotate through 4 ICUs, a med/surg, a cardiothoracic unit, a cardiac care unit, and a neuro unit. You cannot work more than 40 hrs a week b/c they will not pay you overtime while you are in the residency since you are considered to be "unproductive". The 3 who are no longer in the program did not leave voluntarily. they were asked to leave because they could not hack the program. This is something you have to really want if you expect to make it through the 6 months. Just telling it like it is. You should definitely feel very honored to be hired by Piedmont. From the Dec. grads they had over 400 applications for the residency program and hired less than 20 hospital wide for all the residency programs. Good luck to you!
- i have no idea how many people will be in my group. i don't really know anything about the program to tell you the truth. are you generally busy 7 days a week with extra work? i can't believe half your group left! i hear in the contract there is a $10,000 penalty if you leave for any reason...did they have to pay that?? i am looking forward to the experience but a little anxious because my practicum hours were in an ER so I have no ICU experience! two more questions if you don't mind- 1- does the residency have fixed hours or are you sometimes 7a-7p and sometimes 7p-7a; some days and some weekends? 2- how is traffic in that area? i am considering living in duluth or around that area and commuting but i don't want to sit in traffic for two hours if i have to be there at 7am! thanks so much for the info!!
- hi there! i posted a thread about the piedmont critical care residency program and someone sent me a message saying that you were in the program now. if that is the case could you give me a little info on it as i start this summer after passing boards. i'm just wondering how time consuming it is, if you love it or hate it, how your experience has been...any info would really be appreciated. thank you- and good luck with your career!
