Hi...I think I am doing something a little different than the type of independent contracting you speak of. Last year, medicare approved the use of in home PT/INR testing, most private insurance companies have followed suit. I train these patients on how to use their monitor. It is very basic, requires a fingerstick blood draw, very similar to a glucometer. There are two companies that I am aware of that hire independent contactors for this. There is a basic application form and background check, as you are visiting people in their homes. One of the companies require professional liability insurance, the other does not. I would say that each visit is around an hour, and the pay is excellent. A rep from the company will call or email me when they have a patient to be trained, I accept or decline, they send me the monitor, I make the appointment, train the patient and then submit an invoice. I average about 6 patients a month. It is really a good deal. I also enjoy working with the patients. If this is something you may be intrested in, let me know and i will give you some contact information.
I viewed a post about independent nurse contracting and I am very interested in doing that myself. You said that you do it on a prn basis and I was wondering the details of doing so. Are you a LLC or a sole proprietorship, etc... Will you be willing to give me some more information? About me: I am a nurse on a med/surg telemtery unit at our university hospital in Albuquerque. I am thinking of contracting with some smaller hospitals. Thank you in advance. Damond.
