  1. NICU to the PICU :(

I was floated to Peds a couple of weeks ago. They gave me all babies. I had a 3 week old, 6 week old, and 11 month old. I didn't mind it too much, but I wouldn't want to do it all the time.
  2. Show me the...poopy? :D

We use liquid glycerin. Use a 6f feeding tube to instill it. Works like a charm......sometimes too well!
  3. Admission criteria

Ours is 24 weeks but no weigh limit. We had a 450g 27-week IUGR that did fine and went home. Heather
  4. It's been awhile... How about another ethics question?

What a sad case. Sounds to me like this poor baby needs to just have comfort measures. This baby will probably not have any quality of life. We can't save them all. Heather

We are a smaller unit (22 bed Level III) but our unit is set up into pods. Each pod has max of 4-5 babies. Lighting is turned off most of the time (ie except shift change, during procedures) and all isolettes have covers; unless under photo. Our un...
  6. Privacy/Patient Info

Mom/Dad and Grandparents can visit. Anyone else has to come with Mom/Dad and that is limited to 4 people. I only give basic info if there are visitors other than Mom or Dad. Heather
  7. 5 days of hospital orientation ie. policy and procedure, benefits, how to use the computer system, etc. I can only speak from my experience because I went straight into the NICU. My orientation ended up being 12 weeks. Heather
  8. 2003 Nursing Conferences

I'm thinking about going to the one is Vegas in Sept. Looks like a good conference. Heather
  9. Let's talk about acrylic nails ...

If your nails are that much of a problem, then perhaps your MD can help. There is probably a reason, other than constant handwashing, that is causing your nails to be so weak and painful. I wore acrylic nails before I went into nursing. Yes, they ...
  10. Let's talk about acrylic nails ...

Sixes, If you would have read my second post, you would have seen my reply regarding natural nails : "I agree that excessively long nails (even natural ones) are a hazard in themselves (ie accidentally scratching a patient). But acrylic nails, no ma...

  13. Let's talk about acrylic nails ...

Personally, I think that any type of false nails do not belong in bedside nursing practice. They harbor multiple organisms no matter how "clean" they look or how often they are done. Patients in the hospital are there because they are sick. They ar...
