  1. Moving to Nova Scotia

Hi, I was born, raised, and still live (and work) in the Halifax area! Can't imagine living anywhere else...except maybe the Caribbean after I win the lottery, LOL. It seems that jobs in some areas are a bit scarce, but if you work adult emerg, you'r...
  2. Recovering newborn in OB PACU???

I work in a 13 bed LDR with 4 triage beds (can expand to 6 if necessary), 2 ORs, and a 3 bed PACU. We scrub, circulate, and recover our sections, and unless the babes have to go to NICU, always recover with their moms, whether it be in the PACU or th...

  5. How do L&D nurses REALLY feel about natural birth?

This is the best birth plan ever!
  6. Mandatory OT

I'm in Canada, and at the hospital I work at, we have a huge problem with overtime, as does the unit I work for. Mandatory OT doesn't happen every day, but it certainly is a too common occurence. My five year old recognizes "blocked call" on our phon...
  7. Pagopica and anemia

I never knew the word, but did know about the ice cravings and its association with anemia. I work L&D, and I've noted a lot of women that crave ice will have low hemoglobin.
  8. fundal checks

I work L&D, and we recover our patients post C-section (also scrub and circulate in the OR), until they are ready for transfer to postpartum. For sections, we do fundal checks, vitals, etc. q15 min while they are in PACU, then on PP I believe it ...
  9. Will I get fired?

OMG...is this for real? May I suggest getting a life, getting a job that you might be good at, getting some English and spelling lessons, and get out of the area of nursing...please!
  10. Does your hospital have a policy on no walking after ROM?

No...I've never heard of something so foolish! At my hospital, patients with ruptured membranes with no complications (no mec, no GBS+ status) and in no labor go home to await induction or labor, as long as they are cephalic.

I would love to hear more about this peanut ball! Looking forward to your post with more info.
  13. Do your docs bring baby to sterile warmer in c/s?

We cover our warmer with a sterile disposable drape, warm blankets underneath, and resus equipment under to one side or on the shelf above. A doc closest to the warmer brings the babe over to the warmer, places them on the sterile drape, and goes bac...
  14. Direct OP position

Not only have I seen this a ton in ten years of obs nursing, I also had a primary section for this reason! I rocked myself on hands and knees from 7-10 cm to no avail, then pushed for 2 1/2 hours...no go. What I have seen work in the past is lying i...
  15. Ugh! Delivered Baby On My Own The Other Day...

I'd say your attending needs to get a grip...multips tend to deliver quickly! I like the previous reply. If the doc wants to ensure they're there for a multip delivery, then they can get their butts to the room when she is fully dilated, epi or not. ...
