About tonet0908

tonet0908 has 9 years experience and specializes in Pain Management, FNP, Med/Surg, Tele.

I became a BSN-RN in 2005 and a MSN-FNP in 2009, and I will complete the DNP program 5/20/15 (I can't wait). I currently work full-time as a staff RN (we take turns daily being in charge) on a Med/Surg/Tele unit (9 years) and part time as a FNP in a Pain Management/Internal Medicine Office (2 years). I also have FNP experience in Family Medicine, Pain Mgmt. and Thrombosis.

My condolences to their families and May they rest in peace.
  2. I'm a sexless nurse

    It's getting hot in here!
  3. I'm a sexless nurse

This is all a bit funny to me and I apologize if I offend anyone by laughing. There is only one male nurse on the day shift on my unit and basically it's the culture on my unit that us nurses work as a team. We are all around the same age and so we a...
  4. I give up.. Failed Aanp three times

I'm so sorry to hear this. Please don't beat up on yourself too much and definitely do not give up. You can't, you've come too far, made too many sacrifices and if other people have done it, why can't you? Why don't you try practicing questions in yo...
  5. What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?

OMG! I am traumatized just reading this. Why wasn't there a security guard with her? Better yet, why wasn't she transferred to a Psych facility. A regular nurse is not trained to deal with demon possessed patients. After the Pepsi assault, I would ha...
  6. What's the meanest thing a patient has said to you?

Told me I reminded her of her house keeper after asking me what my ethnicity was. I was born on the island of Jamaica but grew up in NYC but because her housekeeper is Jamaican then automatically I must be a housekeeper as well. This happened a few m...
  7. Do DNPs get compensated more

Like my colleagues already mentioned, it depends on where you work unfortunately. Some employers will give you a pay raise for the DNP degree and others won't. I work in a single physician practice, it's just me, him and two PA's and he has made it c...
  8. Black and Job Hunting

I agree, I live and work in NYC also and it's the other way around I think. My unit only has 1 Caucasian nurse and he is on the day shift, there are no Caucasians on the night shift. The rest of the nurses range from Filipinos , Caribbeans, Africans ...
  9. When did it become OK to treat your nurse like poo?

I work on a Med/Surg/Tele unit so our patients are very colorful. Also, let me remind you it's a kosher Jewish facility as well. I had this patient the other day who was insisting on me getting him a grilled cheese sandwich (remember, kosher). I cal...
  10. We get 1 hour unpaid for lunch and two 30 mins breaks but we normally don't take the last 30 mins. We only take 30 mins for breakfast in the morning and the hour lunch. You can always get paid for the hour lunch break if you were too busy to take it....
  11. Areas of nursing you would NOT like?

I am by no means interested in Psych, OB/GYN, any of the ICUs and definitely not Home Care because I hate going into people's homes. I'll deal with them in my turf.
  12. When did it become OK to treat your nurse like poo?

I love that, I think our hospitals here in the US should adopt some of those traits from the UK when it comes to "waiting on" on some of these patients. Sometimes I feel like a glorified maid and I don't remember going to school to become a maid. S...

Well said BostonFNP, you verbalized perfectly everything I had a hard time stating in another forum. Thank you.

  15. I guess that makes sense because the DNP program I'm in allows the Adult NP to take Peds courses in order to complete the FNP requirement and at the end, get their DNP Diploma.
