I am an ASN student and will graduate in May 2014. I just obtained my LPN which I was eligible for after this past fall 2013 semester. I have worked for the past aprox 8 years, 5.5 at my current employer, as a medical assistant in primary care (and got to continue with my current employer as a LPN). I previously obtained a BA in psych from UNH in 2011. Most of my medical experience is from working as a medical assistant but I did not complete a medical assistant program. I was partially trained at a private internal med practice when I was in HS and then I completed an EMT basic program my first year of college which enabled me to be hired by my current employer (now they do require certified medical assistants). I am not sure what area of nursing I want to pursue once I get my RN. I have a love/hate relationship with primary care from my years at my current job. But, I really feel like I need some solid inpatient experience before I decide for sure what I want to pursue. Eventually I see myself getting my MSN (which I will be able to go straight into even though I did an ASN program since I have a BA) but in what area is TBD depending on where my early nursing career takes me.
