   Volunteering won't hurt, but why not try an externship? This way you get paid and get good training. Then when you finish school and get your license you may be "next in line" for an opening.

   Some hospitals offer residencies/internships for new grads or nurses looking to change specialties. These are great ways to learn and get oriented. Be persistent! Don't be afraid to call HR departments and ask about opportunities.
