  1. Panic Attacks During C-Section

I just had my first baby on 11/26. I DID panic! My baby was traverse and my water broke at home at 37 weeks, so automatic section. Worst experience of my life! I was very nervous going in and had asked for anything for anxiety...no dice. I was given ...
  2. When refusing to work is considered abandonment?

My first LPN job at a skilled LTC was night shift. No RNs in the building (just the DON at home but on call). There were only 2 LPNs for the 8 hr night shift, each on opposite sides of the facility, with a handful of CNAs. Each LPN had 50 patients to...
  3. I studied about 3 hours a day most days of the week. Ditto during clinical. This was an LPN program, so maybe RN even more, but I have been told that many of the LPN programs can be tougher. Not because the material is tougher but because it's so jam...
  4. Fired from my first RN job after only 2 weeks.

LTC is HARD. You have many more patients and less help. On night shift as a new grad I had no one to consult unless I called a sleeping on call. So lots of critical thinking WAS required.
  5. Are anti-vaccine people conspiracy theorists generally?

I am a nurse, and I am pregnant. At this point, I'm still on the fence about which vaccines I want my child to have. Any POSSIBLE link to autism terrifies me. This isn't too say that I won't vaccinate, or that I believe vaccines cause autism.. I am u...
  6. Can I be a nurse if I hate science?!

I don't know. That would sort of like being an accountant that doesn't like math. Nursing IS a science.
  7. Not a CNA, LPN, CMA, etc.

An LPN is a Licensed Practical NURSE. Not at all the same as a CNA or CMA, and shouldn't be considered as "prep" for RN nursing school. LPNs HAVE attended nursing school. I attended nursing school, and became an LPN, AFTER earning a bachelor's deg...
  8. Dispensing meds from a punch card?

Yes, of course it's about the residents, that is why important for Administration to KNOW which nurse isn't doing her job. When that nurse isn't doing her job, the residents aren't receiving their medication, therefore it's important to know who isn'...
  9. Risk of getting your family members sick?

All of the above, but I also sprayed Lysol or another disinfectant spray on my shoes when I got to my car. I kept the bottle in my floor board sat on the seat with my feet outside the car and sprayed them. Took less than 30 seconds. I DO realize thou...
  10. Dispensing meds from a punch card?

This is how I've always been trained to give the meds. That way, everyone knows which nurse missed giving the meds so it doesn't come down on you. A med error sheet would need to be filled out for missed doses at my facility. If the dose was purposel...
  11. I never trust the machines if it doesn't come out right. They are to sensitive to movement, ambient noise, etc. (at least the cheaper ones). I always double check manually if I'm in question.
  12. My coworker was high and got away with it

  13. What are clinicals really like?

Nursing and medical care in general is about taking care of people. If you find that isn't something that you would be comfortable with, please don't enter this profession in ANY capacity. Your patients and co workers deserve better. It's not like an...
  14. I just want to be a stay at home mom!

I'm sure I will be unpopular for saying this, but why would you even DATE someone who wasn't good to your kids, much less marry that person? There has to be red flags long before you got serious with this man. It doesn't matter how much YOU like some...
  15. I can't get "poop" taste out of my mouth?

Don't be such a baby, for crying out loud. My first five minutes of my first ever clinicals involved me kneeling on the floor facing a LTC male resident's behind while attempting to clean feces off of the longest set of testicles imaginable, (serious...
