I was employed from May 2012-Nov. 2013 in a surgical/trauma/neuro icu and also worked at a gen. Micu/Sicu from April 2013 thru October 2013 in a community hospital. Yes I would be quitting the job I just started but can't till I have another job. I l...
  2. I took a job out of state thinking this was best for me professionally and academically. At the time my significant other was supportive and still is but we both are having doubts that is worth the risk to us financially. My question is should I leav...
  3. Trauma Centers- East Coast

I totally understand what you mean by "hand lac" lol. I think that every ICU sees a patient like that now and then that somehow manages to slip through the crack. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of traumas counted include minor "traumas". Deer ...

  5. Trauma Centers- East Coast

Right now the acuity is unusually low, according to the staff, but there have definitely been a few interesting cases. Falls from all types of objects ranging from 8-30 ft, major MVCs, etc. Definitely no hand lacs lol. I would say they're more signif...

Update: I start orientation Monday. Which is super close and it's been quite a journey to get there. I'm excited and nervous. Still finalizing housing but I'm lucky to have a couch to crash on until then. Thanks to everyone for their well wishes.
  9. Trauma Centers- East Coast

I've tried working a different unit (basic med/surg ICU)and found the best way for me to maintain my sanity was to work with trauma. Got so bored with non-trauma patients. But that's what's great about nurses, we're all different.

Thank you!!! I know they have hired new nurses into the IMC or "step-down" units. Best of luck to you :-)

    I concur :)
  12. Trauma Centers- East Coast

Thank you so much. I look forward to the many learning experiences. I'm pretty familiar with Neuro and Trauma in the ICU so I can guess why
  13. Trauma Centers- East Coast

Thank you! They're expanding to 14 and the whole critical care tower has expanded. It's typical ICU patient ratio.
  14. Trauma Centers- East Coast

The biggest hospital I've worked in is 440 beds, so this should be interesting lol. It's never fun starting a new job, but once that phase is over it gets better. :)
