  1. 30+ club! Lets do this together.

I am 34 as well, just finishing up my prereqs this semester and applying for a BSN program for Spring '14. It is wonderful to read everyone's stories and know I am not alone in this :)
  2. Help! I need some advice about a PCT/CNA interview! Please!

Most of the interviews I have had center around customer service, interaction with coworkers, and dealing with management/supervisors. How would you react if a supervisor gave you an order you didn't agree with? Have you ever made a safety error and ...
  3. Work experience would probably help you decide what you want. I completed most of my prereqs a few years ago but couldn't make up my mind for sure that this was what I wanted, so I quit school for a while. Then I got my CMA, started working, and I kn...
  4. Certified Medical Assistant

I am a CMA, now working as a unit secretary while I'm in school for BSN. I got hired by the clinic where I did my externship and LOVED it. If I hadn't had to leave in order to go back to school, I definitely would still be there. A few things: Pay i...
  5. minimum gpa for nursing school?

The majority of programs I have looked at require a 3.0, with emphasis on AP/Chem/Micro. They do state that even without a 3.0 you can apply, as they consider other aspects of your application. But I imagine that you'd have to be pretty extraordinary...
  6. Anybody have Plan B?

No Plan B here, either- I have been working on this way too long for it not to work out! There is one particular program I want to attend, and if I don't get in the first time I will reapply until I do.
  7. Don't sweat the pressure from your family, seriously. It is not them taking the test or getting the degree, it is you. Which class is it you are struggling with? If you are more specific, there might be some people out here who would be able to help....
  8. Non-CNA Jobs You Can Work While You're a Student

I wouldn't recommend working as a CMA while you're in school. There is very little flexibility in scheduling- it is usually a 9-5, 40 hr job. I worked as a evening/night unit secretary in the NICU- tons of study time as it's usually pretty quiet ther...
  9. Certified Medical Assistant

Well, everyone else has commented on salary, so I'll say this: I am a CMA, used to work in a clinic within a hospital. I actually really enjoyed being a CMA. You learn lots of technical skills like phlebotomy, vitals, etc. You learn how to deal with ...
  10. Fear or anxiety about Nursing?

I say stick with it. I am still working on my prereqs but have worked as a CMA, so have worked with pts quite a bit. I think everyone has some anxiety when it comes to interacting with pts at first, especially when you are new to the environment and ...
