  1. Nursing In My Blue Jeans

Men in pink polo shirts began in the preppy days of the late 70's. Men in pink dress shirts began a bit before that, I think, during or just after the wide tie days. Pink scrubs on men is news to be, but I'm willing to go with the flow.
  2. Nursing In My Blue Jeans

And yet the customary dress for RNs now is surgical pajamas. It's all a matter of what we are used to. Think about what people of stature in other cultures wear.
  3. How to handle lazy LPN's on the team

...except for the 12 hours of your shift. ...as long as what you do is within your scope of practice. ...as long as what you say keeps up the Press Ganey scores.
  4. Nursing In My Blue Jeans

There also used to be these things called "orderlies"-"attendant in a hospital responsible for the non-medical care of patients and the maintenance of order and cleanliness." Yes, they maintained order and cleanliness. I don't know why they weren't...
  5. Not sure what to do. Licensed RN working as tech.

Are you saying that, with their encouragement, you worked beyond the scope of your job description as a tech? (This is completely separate from your scope of practice as an RN.)
  6. 8 or 12hr shifts?

Three-day-week shifts are great for nurses, but not so great for patients' continuty of care, where they might not see, for four more days, the nurse who's been taking care of them for three days in a row.
  7. Name Badges Worn Backwards

That's a creepy story. He already knew where she worked, so the horse was already out of the barn at that point. I don't know what the answer is for badge holders (stable and unobtrusive, but annoying if you have to pull out the badge to unlock doors...
  8. Ethical question...give their alcohol back or not?

Sorry Hancock330, but the editing feature seems to be kaput at the moment. I meant to say, "Hancock330 nailed it — he really did. I suggest you read his post if you haven't already." Now let's all take an ETOH-free chill pill.
  9. Ethical question...give their alcohol back or not?

This is the OP's scenario: It's neither detailed nor complex. Would you like to elaborate on why in this scenario you think it's OK to confiscate the patient's property and dispose of it? You've said what you would do. I assume your ethical compass...
  10. How to handle lazy LPN's on the team

My, my, my. Yes, but you see, I'm not robbing parking meters. I'm just kidding around. If your posts are any indication, you sound like an excellent nurse.
  11. Nursing In My Blue Jeans

Even male nurses? What did male nurses wear in the days of caps, starched white dresses, hose, and white grandma shoes? (Presumably, not jeans.)
  12. Ethical question...give their alcohol back or not?

I'm sure there are some people who don't care about they things that you care about, and thus would have no compunction in violating your rights in those matters. Confiscating people's property is bad enough, but doing it when they're unable to do or...
  13. Anyone starting at Keiser university may 2012 in ft Laud??

What percentage of people who start at Keiser end up passing their exit exam? For instance, if a school were to weed out all but one student, and that student passed the NCLEX after graduation, then that school's pass rate would be 100% for that grad...
  14. You know you spend too much time at allnurses when...

There's always something new to learn about urinary catheters. It makes me think about General Mills, General Motors, General Westmoreland, General Hospital, and general anxiety.
  15. Fired for expressing concerns about patient safety and care!

Not only that, but one of Obama's campaign promises was to reform healthcare. He won by a mandate-worthy margin. People who say the President is violating the will of the voters who elected him are barking up the wrong tree. There are a lot of people...
