   I've seen many RNs, particularly those with psychiatric experience, get PhDs as clinical psychologists. The dean of my nursing college has her PhD in psychology. The associate dean has a EdD - a doctorate in education.

    Yes, I do know a RN who made the switch from psych to med-surg, then later went to cardiac step-down. Next, she went to prison nursing at an all-female prison, returned to the hospital to do more med-surg, and is now about to enter home health!
