  1. ICU and New Grads!

I started with a group of new grads in ICU with no problems. I have seen nurses with that magic year of med/surg come to ICU and fall on their face. It all depends on the RN. ICU is a completely different environment and mindset. The only advantag...
  2. Percent of men in class?

Started with 13 guys out of 53 students. I'm not really sure whats left now.
  3. Any KY or TN nurses out there?

RMC The only other one that would be called large in Western KY would be Paducah or Bowling Green.
  4. Does the term 'Nurse' bother you?

You know I thought I was pretty secure about the whole thing but I suppose I usually tell people I am in RN school not nursing school. Part of that though would be to differentiate between LPN and RN. I think I will probably tell people I am an RN ...
  5. I REALLY suck at starting IV's

If your hospital has an IV team go hang out with them for a bit. At mine they do the really hard sticks and restarts when the RN's are busy. As far as popping the TQ I pop it right before I withdraw the needle and then put my thumb over the catheter...
  6. Any KY or TN nurses out there?

You said it was a nice hospital so you must not be in my home town or your just trying to be nice.
  7. Are you smart enough for nursing?

I can assure you no one in my program is being passed along. If they dont think you have what it takes they will let you know in first semester. By 2nd semester they weeded out the slackers and now I think we may well graduate whats left of us.
  8. Rather odd question

Wow the panty police. In this day and age of lawsuits that would be instructor career suicide I would think. Its not like if someone was wearing colored underwear they couldnt tell without making you bend over. There are several girls in my class t...
  9. Anybody in the Army Reserve Nurse Corps?

Will certainly appreciate any info you can provide. Good luck to you!
  10. Do Male Nursing Students Get It Easier Than Female?

I wouldnt say I get cut any slack but to some of the "girls" it might seem that way. My wife graduated last May so the instructors all knew who I was coming in hearing greatly exagerated stories of what a pain in the *** I would be. I cut up with t...
  11. Considering career move to nursing

Are you on any work restrictions now? I was an EMT for for 7 years before injuring my back (3 herniated disc). I was advised by my MD to get out of EMS and put on a 50lb weight restriction for my safety really. He figured if I didnt lift any more ...
  12. Top 10 things never to say to clinical instructor

At lunch when she asks if you did anything interesting in ER. Wait til she takes a big drink and say "Yeah the ER doc let me put in a chest tube!". Just dont be sitting in front of her. Its not my fault she took such a big drink.
  13. Dopplers on your crash cart?

Strange I would stumble on this thread today. We had 2 codes today both Pt's in PEA. I never really thought about putting one on a crash cart before. The doc asked for a doppler on one but not the other. It took forever on the 2nd one for people ...
  14. Male RN's in demand ?

It would seem some schools are going out of their way to get them into the program. My class started with 13 men out of 52 students which was a record. It would seem that there may be an advantage to men applying to get a job in ICU or ER straight ...
  15. Higher grading policy

lizz I think we lost the lazy ones in 1st semester. We started with 52 and I think in the end had 42. For 2nd semester we started with the 42+6 replacements who were repeating 2nd semester. Of that 48 we now have 33 after the final. I know that s...
