  1. Nursing Strike

to RN691: I know we could have crossed, you and I both did right? But CNA informed us we were to honor the picket line. Did you know CNA can try to fine you if you are a member and you cross a picket line?
  2. Nursing Strike

Really?? We were told by CNA that under no circumstances were we to cross the picket line. There was not a vote on it because the bargaining council said they agreed to do it and the union members did not get a vote. That, to me, is called force.
  3. Nursing Strike

I think a lot of the issue is Obama's health care reform...it will cost the nurses more in the long run
  4. Nursing Strike

Well, in the unit I work on we have nurses working side by side in close proximity. It is also the hospital rule that we double check every single med, otherwise we couldn't even chart it. You get used to it. I look at it as a safety measure. It depe...
  5. Nursing Strike

SOME NURSES WERE FORCED into a "sympathy strike" for another union that wasn't even a nurse's union. Did you not read my previous post about how this secondary strike didn't even involve RN's at a particular hospital? We already have excellent wages ...
  6. Nursing Strike

wtbcrna: Do you actually think it's a bad idea to double check meds? I work in a unit with a population you mentioned in your post, but since I am technically a "scab" I don't want to say exactly where I work. Sometimes we catch nurses in math errors...
  7. Nursing Strike

And we don't have double the staff and we do get things done...
  8. Nursing Strike

ummm...not silly at all. I work in a unit where it is required to have every single med double checked by another RN. We do it all the time. A few extra seconds or a minute is all it requires to save somebody's life and prevent errors.
  9. Nursing Strike

Obviously this hospital does not have a double check meds system in place. All meds should be double checked with another RN!!
  10. Nursing Strike

I am one of "those nurses" who crossed the picket line. I have very valid reasons as to why I worked. The union ordered nurses at my hospital to engage in what they called a "sympathy strike". It had NOTHING to do with my contract with my employer. I...
  11. Sympathy strike...would you do it??

Have you ever seen any nurses get what they want after going on strike?
  12. Sympathy strike...would you do it??

I have been involved with strikes before, and the hospital locked nurses out afterward...and the strikes don't do ANY good in convincing the hospitals to change. As far as my co-workers looking at me differently...I am protected against harassment t...
  13. Sympathy strike...would you do it??

I totally agree. I am also going to ask the union to have us vote on it! It was not up for a vote. Our union does whatever they want with very little input, in my opinion. I am scheduled to work that day, and I feel obligated to do so. But I am worri...
  14. Please help need advice...Take the job offer??

That is really LOW pay for Ca. Where in Ca are you? I started at $22 an hour in 1990 in the Bay Area. If you are desperate for a job, I would take it for 6 months to get experience then move on to higher pay!!
  15. Sympathy strike...would you do it??

I belong to a very strong union who is very opinionated. I don't always agree with their stance on things. There is another union who is striking for possible benefit take-aways...I don't know the true details of what is being proposed to them...beca...
