About LAJJmom

I am a new nurse (graduated 12-13-14) but an "older" person. I am married and stayed at home and raised my 4 kiddos (22, 19, 18, and 14 yrs old). I wouldn't have done it any other way. My dream is to be a L&D or Mother-baby nurse but for now I am stuck in Med/Surg/Tele nursing at a tiny rural hospital. I am starting my BSN this June and will graduate in May 2016. I live on 80 peaceful acres. I love watching movies, going out to eat (or having someone cook for me), going shopping with my girls and watching my boys play soccer.

    OB nursing questions

So, I graduated with my ADN in December 2014. I worked Med-Surg at a tiny (25 bed) rural hospital from January 15-July 15 and then went back to work at a hospital where I was a PCA previously also on the Med-Surg unit. I am still technically there PR...

    New grad...hate my job!

UPDATE: My daughter works as a PCA at the first hospital I ever worked at (also as a PCA) and one of the nurses on the Med-surg unit told her to tell me to apply for a job there. So, I did and the new Nurse Manager of the unit remembered me. I had th...

    New grad...hate my job!

I guess not really my job but where I work. I worked at 2 hospitals as a Patient Care Associate/Patient Care Tech (basically, CNA) through nursing school (1 for over a year and a half the other for almost 3 years) and didn't get hired at either one. ...

    New Grad ADN KC

Starting in 2015 most hospitals will not hire ADN's. If you get hired before that they will "grandfather" you in but you will probably have to sign a contract to get your BSN in a certain amount of time. I am a PCA at St. Mary's (currently Carondelet...
  6. This is an older post but I took my pre-req's at Blue River and Longview. At Blue River I took Chem 105 with Don Miller. He is dry and boring but a good teacher who wants you to pass. I got a B. I took A&P at BR with Mehdi Borhan. He was pretty g...
  7. That is a tough decision. When I got my CNA license, I planned on trying to get a job (wherever I could) and get some experience to make sure nursing is where I really wanted to be before I spent all the time and money trying to get into nursing scho...

    ANY advice on A&P

I took just Anatomy by itself and had an awful professor. I was also in Chemistry and Human Nutrition. I ended up dropping the Anatomy class because I had a chance at good grades in the other 2. Anyway, I took A&P the next semester with a better ...

patient care tech vs cna, whats the difference?

Yes, I still do all the basic stuff too. I make beds for patients, but when they are discharged Environmental Services comes in and cleans the room and makes the bed. I assist with bed baths. Since I am on a Telemetry unit our patients ages and abili...

patient care tech vs cna, whats the difference?

I am a PCA (Patient Care Associate) at a hospital. I have my CNA license (it was required, along with my BLS). I have been trained to check blood sugars and do EKG's since I am on a Telemetry unit. I think they are pretty much interchangeable, the ti...

    Nursing Schools KCMO area

So, I have been trucking along taking my pre-req's, I got my CNA between semesters and have landed a job in a hospital. I took the TEAS test and got in to two LPN programs but decided not to accept and just go for my RN. Now, I am an "older" student ...

    CNA training in Kansas City

Since commenting on here, I got a job in a hospital so I have decided not to do the LPN and then bridge to RN thing and just go for the BSN. I am working at St. Mary's Medical Center on the Telemetry floor. I got my CNA license in Feb 2012 and starte...

    CNA before nursing school

I also am a CNA and taking pre-req courses for nursing. I have found a wealth of experience in my job. I work in a hospital on a Telemetry unit. I have also found that the nurses that were CNA's first are my favorite ones to work with. They do have a...
