  1. Best one sentence handoff report

OK I'm GUILTY!! I have given a report that started with... "Room 6 is gonna die, I'm sorry" I have also taken and given report on our frequent flyers that don't need anything but some sleep and food! The LTC posts are kinda funny to me. :)
  2. Upfront payment for non emergent conditions

I work at a busy ER (stroke & cardiac center) and we have implemented this. The non-urgent cases are triaged by the triage nurse, then the chart is given to the PA or NP, and they decide if the patient needs further eval. The PA and NP in the sta...
  3. Cyclical vomiting syndrome

What about withdrawals from the opioids? They can cause N/V too. These people are getting sucked into this problem where the meds that can help them will also make it worse!
  4. ER Abuse

  6. Vent: "I should warn you, I'm a tough stick..."

I like these ones where you pop in an 18g no problem in their wrist or forearm, one shot and DONE! I did however have a pt who neglected her health the other day (shocking!) 1st time I ever saw one get started towards the breast. It was frustrating...
  7. What is the most interesting case you've seen in the ER?

Legal hold for this one! A danger to himself and others. Oh well! The dissecting aneurysm recently was an interesting case. No back pain, really strange.
  8. Is this a system flaw?

Love that idea, I don't have to deal with that much at all, just the initial INR.. or we could just use pradaxa. Sounds like a flaw in the system; there should be protocols to follow like a heparin flowsheet.
