If you look back in this thread, I describe my interview. I was offered the job, but turned it down bc I had already accepted a position at UTSW and felt that was a better fit for me. Good luck!

I ended up turning down the ER Residency at Parkland for a variety of reasons....the main one being the 3 year commitment...

    I will be there also!

I haven't officially decided if I'm going to do ER or not:/. I'm really torn btwn coming back to Parkland for the ER Residency and going to UTSW for the med/surg Internship...unfortunately, I have no experience in the ER at Parkland bc we weren't allowed there as students in clinicals (even though all other rotations were at Parkland). Since trauma isn't included, I'm not sure about the experience. I know that there will never be any down time since the ER is always over flowing with patients. A lot of people that shouldn't be there too...pts are often angry bc they've waited forever to be seen. I just don't know if I want all that stress! Also, do you remember what they said about scheduling? Are new nurses automatically on nights in ER? I know I asked about scheduling, but can't remember what they said...I don't mind nights if there's a possibility of days after a year or so, but I feel like it was longer in ER. So much to think about...I have to decide tomorrow...thoughts??

Yea, I know it actually ends up being longer than 3 yrs...UTSW was the same way. Excited to get started!

Hey All!! I was just offered a spot in the ER Residency!! My dilemma is that I accepted a med/Surg position with UTSW and now I'm questioning which would be a better experience. The utsw contract is 2 yrs vs. 3 at Parkland...I previously worked at Parkland and always wanted to come back as a nurse. I know ER will be challenging and fast-paced which is my type of environment...I had gotten used to the idea that I was not going to be selected (since I hadn't heard either way), so I was preparing myself for UT. Now I'm confused!! Lol! Any advice, thoughts??

I was told that they would make decisions today, but that we probably won't be notified until Monday....I'm guessing Tuesday though bc of the holiday

I did my Capstone in SICU and talked with one of the managers, she told me that the residency would be small, probably about 4 spots....this was in April. This was because they had hired so many for the previous residency. It's possible something has changed between now and then, but I doubt it from the way they were talking. As for interview slots, not sure how many... I was only given times on Wed to choose from... Hope this helps!

They may pay for you to come interview....I would definitely work with the recruiter, she can better direct you and coordinate an interview.
