  1. New nurse, 1st job, how to learn everything?!

Hi PhatRN, Thanks for your reply. It's not a residency, it's an orientation for 4 weeks, I'll be with a preceptor and then on my own.
  2. Hi my fellow nurses, I just started a new job, I'll be on the floor for the first time very soon. I was given a HUGE binder and several more power points to go with it from the classes I've had. How do I tackle all of this information and learn it a...
  3. Honesty on resume, now no job.

Yes, I know it's a real problem. That's we exactly why I feel like I've been ran over by a Mack truck. But my job prospects are better than before I got the degree. At this point, I'll work for a health insurance company.
  4. Honesty on resume, now no job.

I had the 2nd job for 3 months. I want to be a research nurse, working on clinical trials. Some positions require clinical experience. I'm also interested in healthcare technology.
  5. Honesty on resume, now no job.

I'm hoping to get a job in a decent hospital on a medsurg floor, renal, rehab, to get clinical experience before looking for research jobs. My goal is to be a research nurse.
  6. Honesty on resume, now no job.

I'm at a total loss...I'm older, late 40's, I got my license Aug. 2018, left one job and was fired from another one recently. With the 2nd one, I couldn't handle the fast pace of the joint post-op floor, I tried so hard. I put the 2nd job on my resum...
  7. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

I don't think I made a mistake not to shadow. It was apparent by speaking to her on the phone the manager had NO intention of considering me for the position, and our exchange was pretty tense. I respect myself enough not to put myself through more h...
  8. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

I know it sounds bad, but I have a BA in another field and I took it off my resume and I've gotten many calls now. They only want information relevant to the job. No one has criticized me for leaving it off. But they find out I'm "mature' when I inte...
  9. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

Yes, unfortunately, ageism is very real. But I never, ever imagined I'd experience ageism at 47! I know it's not young, it's not geriatric either. I'm sick of people looking at me like I have two heads when I tell them I'm a new graduate nurse. I pla...
  10. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

I'm a little chubby, but I do hot yoga. But the point is they judged me only by appearances, I don't have grey hear, just some strands here and there, I was dressed with an expensive suit at the career fair. I've been shell-shocked with how I've been...
  11. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

Yes, I'm a new grad, I've only been licensed since last Aug.
  12. RN MGR Told me I'm too old.

I graduated last May with my BSN, mid 40's. I had a phone interview, the RN Mgr didn't remember me at first, but then she did from a recent career fair. She told me the unit was "very heavy" and fast-paced, I need "alot of stamina", if I get tired th...
  13. Generalist MSN to Post-Master's Cert possible?

Therein lies all the confusion! This entry-level MSN program does not award an BSN, but yes, we are allowed to take the NCLEX after we graduate. There's a number of programs like this. I think they should lengthen the programs AND award a BSN.
  14. Smartest way to be NP in Ohio??

Hello, I posted this thread on here b/c I wanted to hear from actual NP's. (Not people from admissions, financial, etc.) I'm 44 and want to be an FNP. I have a B.A. not in nursing. I'm in a Generic MSN program that does not prepare us to be an NP. I...
  15. Generalist MSN to Post-Master's Cert possible?

Thank you for your reply. No, I'm not getting my BSN along the way. I'll be graduating as an "Advanced Generalist". BUT, an adviser from another school told me very few of my Gen. MSN classes will transfer over to the NP program, AND financial aid w...
