  2. African American Care

I knew eventually someone was going to say something offend. It was just inevitable....Yet again another due to be closed thread because of an ignorant remark. I guess white folks don't need lotion, use wide tooth combs or have large families, huh?...
  3. African American Care

I hated this part of the nursing curriculum....I know a lot of it may be valid, but it makes so many generalizations that just can not be applied to everyone in a particular group. I'm an African-American and about half of those listed above don't ap...
  4. 16.50 Starting Wage for a Grad Nurse???? Oh No! Say it Ain't So.....

Did you know that St. Dominic's doesn't hire agency nurses or lpns. This was told to me by the nurse recruiter there.
  5. 16.50 Starting Wage for a Grad Nurse???? Oh No! Say it Ain't So.....

You've got to be kidding.... and they only want to start RNs off with 16.50??? Ridiculous! St Dom is the same starting pay rate as well and from what I've heard UMC is the same way. A student at another school said that there was a rumor going around...
  6. 16.50 Starting Wage for a Grad Nurse???? Oh No! Say it Ain't So.....

More like 700-1100 now. You may be able to find a place for 500.00 now, but it will most likely be in the ghetto and I don't think anyone who could afford it would want to live in those areas.
  7. 16.50 Starting Wage for a Grad Nurse???? Oh No! Say it Ain't So.....

The Baptist Hospital visited our school a few weeks ago and the flyer they passed out to all the students listed 16.50 per hour to nursing graduates. They did have other ways listed to increase that such as float pool, weekend only and differentials...
  8. left crying!

There is nothing more frustrating than being misinterpreted and then having to sit there and listen to bull. Why don't you talk to her about it later in her office and tell her what the deal REALLY was, because people have a tendency to make assumpt...
  9. Working in Mississippi

A CRNA can perform anesthesia, but they are still considered to be under the direction of an anesthesiologist; although from what I hear it is not that much. You are able to have much more autonomy than a regular nurse and the compensation is very go...
  10. Working in Mississippi

I think St. Dominic is trying to change their image now. They started a campaign some time ago about their new (or updated) maternity ward. I heard that they don't do tubal ligations though. I don't know if this has changed or not.
  11. Working in Mississippi

Yeah the one you're referring to is now called Central Mississippi Medical Center.
  12. Working in Mississippi

I just wanted to say an early welcome to Mississippi. I think you will really love it here! I'll try to help you as much as I can with the information you're seeking. Oh by the way, I'm a nursing student as well at Mississippi College. I'm only in my...
  13. Is anyone near or in the path of Katrina?

I live in Mississippi, so I'm in the direct path of the hurricane. The hurricane has moved a little bit to the east so it will be (so the meterologist says) a little easier (whatever that means....) on New Orleans, but worse for us, especially those ...
  14. How My Orientation Went

I do feel slightly better now. "Slightly" being the key word here.:uhoh21: I found out that we don't go to orientation until the 1st week in October.
  15. How My Orientation Went

It was Monistat. I told you wrong. I wonder what the guys were thinking? Technically they could use it I guess. I'm sure they get chaffed as well :chuckle
