  1. I think many hospitals will jump at the chance to employ someone who has seen emergency type situations: Broken arms from fights in the cell, dog bites, stab wounds, bullet holes, wound care in general, and can't forget OVERDOSE situations and DETOX....
  2. I love correctional nursing!!!

I love corrections, too. The night shift is anything but boring by the way. Its almost impossible to be lazy if your jail or what not is located in a heavy urbanized/suburban area.
  3. What to do with a head banger?

You now have the evidence visually to move them to suicide watch since they are "hurting themselves." If they are manipulating the system the person will stop right away in suicide watch so you kind of know and then you can say back to general popula...
  4. Agency Legal Contracts

Hello, I've been told by Maxim's recruiter/schedulers that I cannot apply to work (aka employed)at a facility that I've worked at under Maxim for one whole year, is this true, and is this legal? I have been working at such and such a hospital, I like...
  5. Done With Nursing

Everyone has buyer's regret bk, when I first graduated I doubted that I would become a good nurse and hated the fact that maybe I wasn't up the par. I thought maybe nursing wasn't for me. Yet, there was a reason you went into nursing to take care of ...
  6. New Grad LPN needs help landing my first job in NYC area.

Have you tried a nursing home? You might not want to work in geriatrics per se but thats usually where LPNs tend to have jobs these days and clinics, too.

I'm a new hire at my facility with zero years experience as an LPN so far so my starting wage $15.75 with 0.25 cent shift differential... Its pretty good step up!
  9. How long did it take to get your first LPN job?

I was lucky enough to have been working in LTC for four years as a CNA so my facility just orientated me as a nurse without having to be sorted through the HR filter. I do feel that they saw I already knew the residents, most of the nursing practices...

Why are you struggling to memorize the meds? The MAR is there to help you give the pill. Memorization is not required HOWEVER I would definitely know what the pill is used for. As for disruptions--> Use Priority on those like... Is a resident com...
  11. Stretched to the breaking point

All about money... Sad...sacrifice for the buck
  12. Becoming friends with patients?

being friends is alright but each facility has own rules. I would caution against it as significant others sometimes read into it all kinds of thoughts if you befriend a married individual.. That is just my opinion.
  13. Need advice/tips on being a good charge nurse

Cnas are more tough than bikers hehe.. I am a cna still.
  14. Need advice/tips on being a good charge nurse

Be kind, courteous, and polite. Know it all people do exist but some cnas do know plenty about their residents which you won't for awhile. They are your eyes and ears. One thing that drives me crazy is staff acting like they don't hear alarms.

They are needed but what an expensive overhaul
