Hello sure, I was missing one pre req for the nursing program I got into (starting May '13) and my counselor said that I would not be able to take it at MDC because I didnt let her know by the time of the interview that I had enrolled in the class. Now what I was missing was American Lit. I had everything else, and she gave me an attitude when I told her I wanted to take it at Dade because its way cheaper....336 at Dade....almost 2,000 at Keiser. When I told her If I could speak to the director of the nursing program she said she wasnt there that day and that she would call me back...later that day she emailed me saying that I cannot take it at Dade and if I did I would not be able to go in the program. So pretty much you either take that pre req at keiser or you can kiss your spot goodbye. So I called her and let her know alright no problem let me go in and speak with financial aid and see what I could do....I was about to take out a loan for a stupid pre req that I would have to pay back by the time I got in the program, and then thinking of all the loans I would be in debt with by the time I graduated from their program...I went online and read horrible reviews on the financial side...look Im young, and I originally did not want to do nursing, so switching from it was always an option, and just going to keiser did not feel right. It felt like I was just going into a bank not an educational institution. So I will be re enrolling at FIU for the spring semester with another major  hope this answered your question!

Hey the interview went well, the counselor I had, later on showed me the points I received and I got the maximum for the face to face interview. It was about 20 minutes long. You have to fill out a paper explaining why you want to be a nurse, your future goals, and what you think a nurse does on a day to day basis. So you will be asked those questions as well, along with maybe what would you do if a patient threw up on you, if a patients family member yelled at you, and if a doctor yelled at you. I have no experience in the field but they are common sense, if you have ever had a job you can easily relate your experiences to the scenarios that she sets. Also what caught me off guard was that I was asked on Obama's healthcare plan, if I knew about it and what did I think about it. I did know a couple of things on it, I havent really been paying attention the news lately so from what i knew I B***sed th rest and that part went well (thank GOD!). What else....oh also she will ask you what you think the biggest problem in healthcare is right now for nurses...I said that the shortage in nurses and how R.Ns have to multitask in order for hospitals not to hire so many LPNs and CNAs...the whole time she was nodding her head and agreeing with me so I guess I did pretty well. Thats pretty much it, Im giving you all this info because I decided not to go on in with Keiser...GOOD LUCK!

Hi everyone, I have an interview with the director of the nursing program at Keiser (Miami Campus) tomorrow. I wanted to know if any of you remember what questions you had to answer or how it went, any tips will be greatly appreciated. Also if any of you are attending keiser...how is it going so far???

    Thanks!

oh man that sucks well have all your questions ready for tomorrow and its driving me crazy, now I have to change my schedule all over again because of anatomy, etc. Well lets just overcome these obstacles! that's what it is all about Oh he said not to worry about the nursing class because a lot of people always drop it (about 40, he expects) so there will be room. (my friend is on that waiting list, and she couldnt get a permission code to enroll in it so she has to wait until other students drop it). Just keep checking or I dont know if you enrolled already, but, dont worry that one shouldnt be a problem. I asked sooo many things now I dont remember...well no I think thats all thats relevant to you. Now I have to plan and enroll in other classes again good luck! and let me know what you hear tomorrow :]

So i went to my advisor today again and theres a waiting list for the nursing class incredibly long...but, thank goodness i signed up for it last semester. There is also a waiting list for anatomy and he said that I should be getting an email explaining all the changes and bad news that have not been updated on the nursing website. So I am waiting for that email to get here quickly! Did you go?

Thats great you will have an income from there (: I have a class at 8 and my appointment is at 2:30 so ill be at fiu that whole time. The nursing bldg is called AHC-3, rm 121. Its right in front of a construction site they're doing. When you walk in just tell whoever is on the front desk that you have a couple of questions about classes, etc and they'll tell you what to do. And i wish so too but the advisor told me that the communications class is pretty easy and can be taken online. Unfortunately, there isnt an option for the nursing class plus theres only one and its only on friday. ohh well

aww dont be sad! Of course i am too and a bit discouraged to have to take more time with this but, I cant do anything about it because I am not going to cram two semesters worth of classes in one. But tomorrow i have an appointment with the advisor again so im going to roll a list of questions once again and i'll post anything i find out. Hopefully when you go you hear something different from someone else, let it be good news. Good luck to the both of us!

On eagles wings: I saw that on the website too but I spoke to the nursing advisor again and he told me that its wrong. He's asked the school to fix the info on the website but it still hasnt been upgraded. If you are going to apply by May 15 then you have to be done with all the pre reqs before hand, in that spring semester :/

NightNurse876: Thank You i decided to relax not stress it and finish my pre- reqs and do a minor in psychology, or nutrition or biology until then. That should help as well when i apply but I am staying positive

Hi everyone sorry to butt in but i found this thread to have the information that i need so i decided to post my questions on here too. I go to FIU, and im a sophomore. Last year, as a freshman I took pre-med classes (bio 1, bio 2, chem 1, etc) but this year i decided to go with nursing so im currently taking the very basic pre-reqs (microbiology, physiology, stats). I spoke with the advisor today and found out that FIU's nursing school admission is now only accepting by spring...meaning my application and pre-reqs have to be done by May 15 to get in by next fall. BUT I wont be done with the pre-reqs for another two semesters, meaning that I would have to apply for the nursing school NEXT spring (2011) so i would have from now until next year practically just waiting and taking other classes. Now I have that option orrr I can apply to other nursing schools, such as Miami Dade's or Barry or Nova or etc...im 18 and live with my family so of course im not going to move anywhere else. And Barry and Nova are way more expensinve than FIU. FIU is closer to me, and its cheaper, and i hate the idea of probably going to miami dade's nursing program because then why did i do my two years at fiu if i would end up in dade? Im not saying Dade is bad or undermining it, its just not exactly my first choice.
But, with what i've heard FIU's nursing school is not at all bad. Is it?
I dont know what to do, i had no idea that i only had one semester left to complete the pre reqs in order to apply for next year. Its impossible for that to happen now because im missing 29 credits, i feel so dumb and naive for not researching and asking more about this. All of you have experience on this area, so could you please tell me what you would do in my shoes or any advice that would help???

    - Thank you so much! and sorry this was sooo long
