  1. Broward Community College Students

I graduated from BCC in May. First of all, don't believe the horror stories you hear. I never had a single problem with ANY instructor. Just study...don't expect to get by without reading the material, or by going over it once. The exams are diff...
  2. RN license fees? Still need an answer

Hi Tracy, I checked the BON website. I'm assuming your looking for licensure by endorsement...looked like $212...Not sure about renewal, I just applied for the first time. Here's the link to the pdf app: http://www.doh.state.fl.us/mqa/nursing/ap_en...
  3. How soon did it take you to find a job in Florida?

azabache, I thought you said in another post that you are in Miami. I am in Broward, graduated in May. I went on two interviews and got offered both jobs, one of them on the spot. Don't bother looking in the paper. Check the hospital websites, or...
  4. Florida nursing salaries - seriously????

I'm sorry if I offend anyone who is under this illusion, but I am sick to death of people telling me the cost of living is low in Florida! Thank goodness my husband and I bought our house 15 years ago, so our property taxes haven't gone up much, but...
  5. new graduate base pay in south florida

This is kind of an old post, but I figured I'd respond anyway. North Broward Hospital District (Broward General, North Broward, Imperial Point and Coral Springs) pays 22.50/hr, $3 evening (3-11p), $5 nights (11p-7a), $3 weekends...Med/Surg at Broward...
  6. Disrespectful to instructor....

On the bright side, you'll probably never have to work with this woman as a nurse, because if she tries that in nursing school (at least in my school), she'll never make it!
  7. Useful stuff for clinicals?

For me, it has depended on the rotation. For most of them, I have brought stethoscope, penlight, at least 2 black pens, a red pen (makes it easier to see when you note changes in a pt's status), a black Sharpie (for writing things that need to be vi...
  8. Steth that wont hurt your ears....?

Ditto on the Littmann with the soft tips. As far as a penlight, I bought a fairly good one, and lost it (changing beds, probably)...cheap is good. I bought like a 5 pack and make sure I always carry an extra in my bag.
  9. You know you're a nursing student when...

    When your 9-year-old knows...and uses...medical terminology.
  10. Drug Dosage Tests Requirements

90% here too, test at the beginning of each 8 week term. 2 chances, and if you fail the second you're on the bench until next semester. In the hospital 100% is expected or you fail the "clinical experience", meaning, see you next semester.
  11. Nursing Student Divorce Rate?

:yeahthat: Well said. I will be graduating in May of '07 from an ADN program (God willing.) I have done exactly as you said...I treat school like a full-time job, but family time is family time...period. I have sacrificed very little of my time wi...
  12. Tell me about Research Triangle

Susan, I like the sound of that house you're putting on the market...Any chance you'd be willing to hold onto it for about another year until I'm ready to move to your area? Just kidding, of course. Thanks for all of the great info on your area. I'...
  13. How difficult is the 1st sememster of Nursing?

One more thing: here are two links to books that were recommended to our class to help prepare for the type of testing you will have. I found them helpful, because they are centered on fundamentals, unlike NCLEX review books, which tend to be more a...
  14. How difficult is the 1st sememster of Nursing?

Stacy, I'm in an ADN program, and I've just started my second semester, which is Med/Surg (GI/GU) and Psych. First semester consisted of 2 separate fundamentals classes with clinicals, pharm and math. Personally, what I found challenging about funda...

OK, here you go: Fundamentals Success: A Course Review Applying Critical Thinking to Test Taking ISBN 0-8036-1056-4 Test Success: Test-Taking Techniques for Beginning Nursing Students ISBN 0-8036-1162-5 I found them both to be really helpful. T...
