  1. Coffee Addiction

I cannot make it through the day without at least 2-3 caffeinated drinks whether it be coffee, Rockstar, etc.
  2. Pt refusals

I helped care for a pt post liver tx. He did absolutely NOTHING to help himself. Refused to get up, try to walk, and fought to keep his foley in, etc. I know this is incredibly mean, but everytime I went in there all I could think was "what a wast...
  3. skirts

I do not wear a skirt. I am a jeans and t-shirt kind of girl, so skirts really aren't my thing lol. I have seen a few people wear skirts where I use to work, one was a CNA who always wore a skirt, it looked like it was made of the same material as ...
  4. Dealing with nosy family members.

It seriously boggles my mind. I couldn't imagine just wondering around an ER looking to see what other patient's are doing. I don't get why people think it's ok to do that. Whenever we get an ambulance in, it always gets people's attention. With...
  5. Would you feel ok as a patient at your own hospital?

I would definitely recommend anyone/everyone I know to go to my hospital. The nurses and docs are great, they teach me something new pretty much everyday. It would depend on what was wrong with me if I would go in or not. Laceration, broken bone, ...
  6. Advice - I'll need a meal tray too

The meal tray thing always drives me crazy. Especially when people get discharged and then ask if they can have a sandwich and soda for the drive home. Uhhh no, I don't think so. The other thing that drives me crazy is the bathroom. I don't know w...
  7. Dealing with nosy family members.

I work in the ER and it seems like patient's family members are always wondering around curious about what's going on with everyone else. They walk around and look into other patients rooms, listen to report from medics/fire, and are especially curio...
  8. Getting a masters or NP w/o working as an RN first!

I don't think they're doing that, but they are both entering these programs without prior nursing experience. It amazes me that this is even possible!
  9. how to give insulin injection?

If no one else is complaining I wouldn't worry about it too much. There are some patient's where pretty much anything you do seems to hurts them!
  10. Two friends of mine are doing this exact thing. One is currently working on her Masters in Nursing, her bachelor's is a health science degree and apparently you can get your RN in this masters program. She is not currently a nurse, and has zero exp...
  11. which shift 3pm-3:30 AM or 11AM-11:00PM

Where I work we have an 11am-11pm as well as a 3pm-3am shift. It's called mid-shift, working in the ER these can be the busiest times so these shifts make sense. I work 11 to 11 and I love it.
  12. Need your advice, full time to "dream" per diem position

Thanks everyone! The benefits aren't a concern, we will be using my husband's benefits so we're covered there. I like the idea of going per diem at my current job, unfortunately I don't know if it would be worth it! Due to the drive and everything...
  13. Need your advice, full time to "dream" per diem position

Thanks! Yeah he did talk about hiring me on full-time as soon as he could. They said I'm sort of a "guinea pig" as they haven't had this type of position from the ED before. I think I may try to hold on to my full time position as long as possible...
  14. Let me give you a little background first. I'm currently working as a PCT for a very well known hospital in my area. I am not a big fan of the floor I work on, very heavy patients, working nights, and a very high turn-over rate for nurses and techs...
  15. Scrubs - what do you wear?

Hospital uniform scrubs. As a PCT I have to wear ciel blue, they gave us a couple different styles of Cherokee scrubs we could buy. We did have to purchase them ourselves.
