  1. I haven't posted in a long time, but need some advice/feedback from those of you who work in OB. I had my son (my first baby) 5 weeks ago after being induced with pitocin at term. I labored for 19 hrs total, had an epidural around 5 cm dilation. My r...
  2. Ativan usage?

We use Ativan often for anticipatory nausea along with Kytril or Aloxi and Decadron. We also use Emend for pts receiving big doses of Cisplatin or CPT. It seems to work quite well esp. when pts have failed other PO antiemetics.
  3. oncology nursing and pregnancy

I'm 4 months pregnant and work in an outpatient clinic where I administer chemo every day. I'm very concious of safe handling of chemo, I always wear gloves and don't mix chemo. There have been many pregnant nurses over the years in my office and non...

Maine Medical center in Portland has a program that my sister attended.
  5. IV tips and tricks

N.S.46, Thanks for your insight. I often try to put myself in the patient's position - I too have been a patient, and I have small veins - they always go for my hand:rolleyes: That said, I work in an outpatient oncology clinic and start about 10-15 ...
  6. Bono praises nurses

I love Bono too. He's much more well-rounded than so many other rock stars. It's nice to be recognized by anyone, famous or not :kiss I saw him in '92 when I was 15. Greatest live show I ever saw:smokin:

  8. Flu shot shortage

I work in an outpatient oncology clinic that treats about 55-65 patients a day in our infusion room. Our Oncology Pharmacist has been trying since March to order a supply of flu shots for this fall and winter. The last he heard, we wouldn't be gettin...
  9. Negative experience in the ER

Thanks Mulan and Grannynurse. The whole experience just reaffirmed for me why I left that facility 6 months ago. It's a large teaching hospital where patients are often treated as more of a number than a human being. It's disappointing to realize tha...
  10. Negative experience in the ER

A few nights ago I spent several hours in the ER with my brother who is 23 and an alcoholic. He had cheated on his girlfriend so she moved out and decided to get revenge by bringing 2 of her guy friends over under the pretense of moving some of her s...
  11. Any advice re: outpatient chemo center?

I've been working in an outpatient oncology clinic for 6 months now and I love my job! It's far less stressful than my previous job working in a large understaffed teaching hospital. I took a chemo course that focused on the different types of chemo,...
  12. Yes - I work in an oncology clinic with great coworkers and management. If you had asked me 6 months ago while I was working at a large teaching hospital, the answer would be absolutely not. After 4 years of abuse there, I was ready to leave nursing ...
  13. Meds. off floor taste YUMMY!

ITA with SBE, giving meds to a pt after dropping them on the floor, even if the pt says he/she will take it, is unacceptable and should be reported. I would be outraged if a nurse did this to me or a family member. :angryfire

  15. This thread cracks me up. I've been a nurse for a few years now, but I remember being stressed and exhausted while in nursing school full time and working 24 hours a week at the hospital as a float CNA. I worked the 3-11 shift and would sometimes fan...
