   The lung is being smashed...The capillaries would be smashed too which would create quite a lot of pressure--blood would leak. Bingo... bloody sputum.

   The question should have been asked when the patient exhibited the signs, and not when one is home. Why would the patient not have bloody sputum?

   I am sick and tired of DONs who become DONs to bully and harass the staff. They are suppose to make the work environment conducive for providing optimal patient care. Oh... I guess that is why I would not be asked to be a DON.
