I am hoping to transition into hospital peds nursing from volunteering overseas as a nurse for disabled children. I was wondering what a typical orientation would be like for a RN newly hired to peds floor. I began volunteering immediately following graduation from nursing school in May 08 so I do not have any prior experiences and I was wondering if the orientation for an "experience RN position" would be sufficient for me. My other option would be to apply for grad nurse internships, but I am not sure I would be considered because I graduated over an year ago. Thanks for any advice offered!
I have been serving as a volunteer nurse overseas for one year at a large children's home that cares for children with mental and physical disabilities as well as for HIV+ children. I came here immediately following graduation from nursing school. So, I have never had a hospital nursing job. I am hoping to apply for pediatrics postitions when I return to the States. Does anyone have any advice for the level of job I should apply for. I was considering applying to grad nurse positions because my experiences here have been with basic nursing- no fancy equipment! Would a hospital hire me as a grad nurse seeing as I graduated over a year ago (May 08)? What is a typical orientation like for an experienced nurse recently hired to a peds floor. Would it be sufficient enough for me coming from working in a poor country with limited resources? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
