  1. Looking for a job in Operating Rooms in CA

Do not despair, the job hunt is not impossible here. I am med/surg and I had two job offers within 1 week of applying & interviewing for both. I think OR jobs are still very much needed (although I dont ever pay attention to postings for those)....
  2. $28 an hour from St Johns hospital in Santa Monica

i'd also like to know if these rates are still relevant---how much experience are we talking about?
  3. Cedars Sinai

i'm going there soon also- never been before though.
  4. What would be your perfect computer charting system?

I think McKesson CareManager is terrible, too much clicking all over the place and not conducive to writing my own narrative. I am OK with Meditech. What I like most about it is that new results (for lab, radiology, etc) appear on my status board whe...
  5. You work 3 days a week? MUST BE NICE!

i really don't mind the 12 hour part of the job, i just really would like to work the same days every week. i'd even be willing to work every weekend (at least every saturday) in order to do it. but my scheduler could never manage to work it out for ...
  6. Do you take any stimulants?

    ditto!
  7. You work 3 days a week? MUST BE NICE!

many a patient and/or family member has asked me about my schedule. i use it as a teaching opportunity. They are usually aware that we work 12 hours (when they realize-"gee she's been here a long time today!") I say, yes I work three days a week. Res...
  8. Deal or No Deal - Naughty Nurse

I believe there are a few simplistic responses here. First-Do I believe this single episode will directly cause a person to think, "nurses are silly sexpots"? No. But as I've said in a previous post, all these historical images and outdated conceptio...
  9. Deal or No Deal - Naughty Nurse

I completely agree with you. I think the show in its entirety was a blow to the image of nursing (and not just the sexy nurse get-ups). Of course, it is easier to just brush it off and say "it's all jest, people don't think that way." I don't honest...
  10. Jobs in Colorado

definitely no shortage...as evidenced by working shortstaffed alot! but it is true that new grad openings are limited.
  11. best er in denver

I would definitely classify Rose as a community hospital, however, they are now much busier since University moved to Aurora. They have expanded their ER, and they are no doubt seeing more of the indigent patients that the U left behind in that side ...
  12. How many patients?

I don't think nurses should to pay a price in regards to ratios & staffing just to live somewhere sunny. anyways, there's plenty of sunshine in CO, just no beaches! :)
  13. How many patients?

Wow! I can't believe the ratios out there. I have worked at two hospitals (tele and med-surg) and the ratio has always been 4/1 on days, and 4 to 5/1 on nights. At my current hospital, they DO take acuites into account and because of that we are gett...
  14. Why do docs give D5 to diabetic patients a lot?

as others have already mentioned, D5 doesn't supply a large amount of dextrose. i learned in a diabetes class that it only supplies about 5g of sugar, which is equivalant to a lifesaver/hr when run at approx. 100ml/hr.
  15. Are accelerated BSN programs looked down on?

I went through an accelerated program and I don't feel looked down upon at all because of that fact. (it's a different story when it comes to being a med-surg RN, but I digress). My accelerated program was intense and challenging. Most of the people...
