Covid-19: The Guilt of the Work From Home Nurse

As a research nurse, I've been feeling the same way. Then, my institution decided to prepare for the possibility of a surge by having all nurses in the institution do online module training in case they have to be called to go back fill the positions...

    Leaving Nursing for Another Career

Mission Control at NASA or an automobile design engineer. I love cars! NASA would be a trade of stress for stress, but astronomy has always interested me.

NTI 2016: Family Presence During Resuscitation?!

I say let them be there, if they wish, as long as they don't get in the way. However, from my personal experience, I would NOT want to be present to see a family member of mine being resuscitated and can't understand who would want to. Unfortunately...

    Nurse's Week Gifts from Employers

We got cake, food catered from an outside restaurant, and pretty nice thermos with a penlight and scissors inside. Last year, we got the same cake and food, along with a portable charger.

    Meaning of your username?

CityLights = a combination of song titles from two of my favorite bands. "City of Blinding Lights" by U2 and "Big City Lights" by Black Stone Cherry. And, I like city skylines. 89= the year I was born

    Leaving Bedside Nursing

I've never been in bedside, so I really can't compare the OR to the bedside in my experience. However, the OR has it's own caveats. Get ready to be a runner for everyone. Sometimes it feels like there is no respect and you are a handmaiden. Stress fr...

Let's Ban the Phrase "I'll Go Get Your Nurse"

Every day that I hear that phrase I am reminded on how silly it sounds. I am a nurse, not a waitress, not a maid. I just figure if I can do some small task, so can you. Don't be such a needy baby. Then again, there are people in my department who can...

    prn/overtime addiction/survey

I only do OT when I'm on call. Other than that, most of the time I'm at work I'm thinking about when I can go home. The best part is when I get my paycheck and I start the cycle all over again. Good thing I don't have a lot of addictions and fancies....

    Separate being Family vs Nurse

I'm sure your Dad appreciates your efforts. I wish I had as much gusto as you when my Mom was in a facility. I would let them know what needed to be done, but often I felt like I was bothering them. At the end of it, she was my Mom, and he is your Da...

Would you do it all again?

Since nursing has so many options, I would say that I made a right decision. However, if nursing involved ONLY working on the floor or in the ICU, I would become an accountant. Or revisit my original dream to be a computer engineer or work for NASA.

WHAT TO DO...Nurse is refusing to give PRN medication

did they do an x-ray of his abdomen for part of his testing? my Mom was nauseous all the time until she was rushed to the ER and they found an abdominal perforation. It was too late at that point.

12/31/15: What I learned this year

I'm soooo sorry for your loss. Unfortunately, I know all too well what it means to lose a parent. Losing my Mom was single handedly the most hurtful thing that I have ever had happen to me. I lost her 2 days before her 58th birthday last year (2015)....

12/31/15: What I learned this year

As a HUGE U2 fan, I just have to say that I am grinning to see a link to "New Year's Day". I also have learned A LOT last year, 2015. However, I won't go into it.

How was your first code blue? What role did you have?

Wow, these tales are really descriptive. Although I appreciate it, I have to stop reading this thread. I'm about to cry. Too many bad memories about my Mom.
