I live in California and while we do have ratios and we are unionized...I work alongside martyrs who do not take breaks. We do have 2 nurses who are "supposed" to be breaking us, but the reality is...they are being saddled w/ more tasks from manageme...
  2. Is Joint Commission more hindrance than help?

I think it's a hindrance too. I had the unique perspective of actually being a patient at my own hospital while JCAHO was there!! I had my c-section and I was stalled getting placed into a room because the poor nurse had to finish this special chart...
  3. This just infuriates me!

Oh, I forgot to add. I'm one of those nurses who had both of my babies in the summertime (2005 and 2007) thus giving me all the holidays off!! I take extended maternity leave off, so I won't be back until January. Oh, and the 2nd birth was an ELECTIV...
  4. This just infuriates me!

You said exactly what I was thinking...but didn't include in my post! There's nothing more annoying/irritating than people who get up in other people's business and worry about things that don't include them. Thanks for posting!

  6. Injured Football Player

Hell, we can't even trust our toys to be safe coming from China. I don't know if I could trust China to provide a safe stem cell transplant. Seriously.
  7. Where do you guys normally buy your scrubs? I usually buy mine in a store nearby, but only during clearance time. I just received a card in the mail that is for an online scrub store. They are having a 3 day sale. Thought I'd pass the link on since ...
  8. Telemetry/heart attack scenario help

I'm an oncology nurse and have a question for any tele nurse who can help here. The info I'm presenting here is second hand from my mom (she is not in the medical profession). Our grandpa had an MI last Tuesday and was rushed to the hospital where t...
  9. NO way. It's my money, I worked for it. I get taxed out the behind as it is. Absolutely no way!
  10. Too many attempts at a spinal tap?

Google "silas2642"....he/she is a student doc. That explains everything!
  11. Too many attempts at a spinal tap?

Obviously, you are not a nurse....or you are a horrible nurse. Which is it?
  12. Pregnant: What do I really care about it the hospital?

One day I was assigned (this was when I was about 28 wks pg) to a patient who was in isolation with I-131 radiation, a patient with shingles, and a violent psych patient who already put an employee out on disability and kicked a security guard in the...
  13. Pregnant: What do I really care about it the hospital?

LOL! So true! I'm pg with my 2nd (due in Aug) and I have my handy Reglan with me because smells get to me too.
  14. Best: My entire birthing experience! From the RN who did the nonstress test to all the nurses who took care of me until I went home...they were wonderful!! I wrote a letter to the hospital letting them know how great they were. The funny thing...I ha...
  15. Newbie questions: Assisting Male patients Issues

I agree with ShayRN! Yes is the answer to both questions. If you have a problem with just assisting someone with bathing and urinating....wait until you have to stick your finger in the rectum for a suppository. OR stick a catheter in the penis.
