Hey Does anyone know if they provide the scholarship in the fall also??
This is the email I recieved about the scholarship:

    Good morning *****,

Thank you for your interest in the University of Miami's Accelerated BSN Scholarship Program. Unfortunately, at this time we will not be awarding additional scholarships for 2009.

I wish you success in your educational endeavors.

    Warm Regards,

Hey guys, just thought I'd let you know. They will give you guys a nursing tote that has lab supplies and a stethoscope (except for the penlight, you will need to get one). It is for labs and you can use the steth for clinicals. It's a pretty basic (sprague) one but will hold you over if you decide to get one later. I am actually using the one I bought anyways since we weren't informed we were getting a nursing kit. Btw... I am from the current May class.
p.s. you guys are lucky you are starting on a fall semester. We are shorted by 5 weeks by starting in the summer (with patho and pharm, wish we weren't cramming it all in such a short summer semester). Anyways, good luck
What exactly is in the nursing tote? I wouldn't mind reducing expenses!

    Hi Angel4gzus,
Thank you for the offer! Just one question: housing! I am still out-of-state and trying to find housing. Seems like the Coral Gable houses are expensive. Did you ever get housing before you arrived? Did the school tell you of your clinical attachment site before you arrived? That should really help in looking for housing when you know the attachment site.

I PLAN TO GET A MAC!!! I am done with PCs. So you are not alone. Anyway, here is the info on Macs:
If a student still decides to use an Apple laptop despite this disclaimer, they must make sure that it meets the following minimum requirements with sufficient time prior to their first HESI exam:
Pentium D, 2.8GHz/800Mhz FSB or greater (Intel Core Duo if Windows Vista installed)
    Mac with an Intel processor
Mac OS X " Leopard " or higher
Boot Camp software properly installed and tested
Have available CD with valid copy of Windows XP SP2 or higher
On the Windows side make sure that Internet Explorer 6.0 or higher and Microsoft .Net Framework 2.0 or higher are installed
Be sure to " Activate " the copy of Windows installed
Student laptops must be fully functional prior to arriving to class for an exam or quiz. It is highly advisable that they meet the model and specifications recommended by the University's Information Technology Department in order to qualify for the most comprehensive technical support available through the " CaneNet Connection " mentioned in the "Technical support for student laptops" section below.

although the crime rate here is high, i myself in the almost 23 years i have lived here, have never been a victim of crime. i currently live in coral gables, it is a city, not a neighborhood, within miami. downtown coral gables, has many restaurants, bookstores, cafes, parks, grocery stores, and a beautiful city hall. if you are looking to rent, the easiest way to find a place near downtown coral gables is by going in a car and going up and down the streets looking for "for rent" signs. many apartments here are not advertised online or in the newspaper (although some are in the newspaper, the better deals are not). buying in coral gables is very expensive, while renting is extremely reasonable. coral gables has it's own accredited police department, crime rates within coral gables are low, and fire station. you can check out more info about the city at www.citybeautiful.net
also, i am pretty familiar with the area and can answer many questions you may have so feel free to ask away
    hi Pedineuronurse,

Am coming for the Fall 2009 accelerated nursing and one of the most difficult things to do now have been to look for apartments!! I am in Boston so am not on the ground, may be that is why it is not so easy. Anyway, good to read from you here.

Hi GatorCane! Congrats! If you have facebook type University of Miami Nursing (Accelerated BSN Fall 2009 Cohort) so I can add you into the group! Its for everyone who is accepted into the program to ask questions and stuff! :-)
Thanks Mr. StudentNurse... I am coming Fall 2009 too. I deferred from May 2009. I did so because I could not get my letter of information from Selective Services System to explain why I never signed on by age 26. It is sad: I am yet to get this letter from them. I think the office is critically understaffed. So wonder whether I will have to defer again!! Without the letter, FAFSA will not certify my aid application! Without that, no financial aid!!
    Anyway, hope I come!

I think the scholarship was only for May admission, right? If it was for Fall too, then I will kill myself for not applying!!! I deferred from May.

Hi everyone. I'm beginning the accelerated program in May and I was just wondering if anyone has any information on books. Anyone know the titles or approximately how much they will cost?
Someone suggested that we call the bookstore... and that is what I will do...
I am also coming in May

I pretty much summed up my experience so far in the bsn accelerated at UM in your other thread. I started last may and have completed 2 of the 3 semesters. We are awaiting our final semester that begins jan 21 or whatever. I remember seeing the guys that graduated last may on our first few days of class as they took a nclex review or something. If I pass everything this semester I will be one of those people you see. I say "if" because this program is hard, very hard and requires extreme dedication. I have around a 3.3 GPA so far but had a 4.0 in the prereqs and a undergrad of 3.3. I did not try very hard in undergrad or even that hard in the prereqs but have tried my hardest in this program and still only manage a 3.3 (which isnt that bad but still). I already explained that we started with 70 and around 45 made it to second semester. We also lost a few more in this last semester.

Ill tell you about the scholarship cause it ****** some students off. First off the scholarship at UM was only given to 17 or so students out of the 48 that finished the application process in time. Some students were mad about that because they felt it should of been better stated that everyone doesnt automatically get a slot. If you plan on applying make sure you get all your documents in order and have them ready for the first day of class in may. They did interviews the first day and again a couple weeks later. Some of my friends never got an interview because the scholarship lady never ansers emails or calls and they didnt know what to do. Some of the people that didnt get it told the interview panel they wanted to be icu nurses and crna or whatever and had bad success.

Powerpoints and notes and books and practice questions works for me. In pharm you may be allowed to use a cheat sheet for the exams (they make you hand write it). Make sure you write small and get all important info from power points on cheat sheet, especially if you have ms. K, she likes the pp.

If you have any other questions ask away!
Nice read. thanks! I am coming in in May.
One question: Please give me as much of the book ISBNs/ book titles as possible. I need to get the books soon before I arrive. Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
I appreciate being able to read these posts. I also applied for the March 1st deadline. I haven't heard anything and getting concerned... Has anyone who applied for the March 1st deadline heard back?
I got in after applying for the March 1st deadline. But that means I am feverishly trying to make it in time... there is lots of stuff to do in the meantime. Did you get in? How far are you in the process?
