  1. Secretion of cortisol and anti-inflammatory drugs???

this is a good question. as an otc drug, i can't believe that it directly has that big of an impact on cortisol secretion. i do believe that they have used ibuprofen and other nsaids to help treat orthostatic hypotension that you get with things li...
  2. pediatric vital signs

we don't generally do bp's on the kiddos unless we're going to be giving meds that could affect it, doing a conscious sedation, or if they are being admitted. if it's an obviously very sick little one, we're doing bp's from the get go. it really co...
  3. IV Bolus question

yeah it's only 50ml's so 5 min is fine......but ya, it totally depends on the drug and what it's supposed to do.
  4. Freaky Things

we have an area called 1 south that we have designated as our fast-track area. it's in the older part of the hospital, is run down, and everyone swears there's a ghost there. there are always doors closing without help, call lights going off, etc. ...
  5. EKGs in triage

we call a "code 10" for all our chest pain patients. which means we get the pt. back immediately and the ekg with MD at bedside within 10 min. chances are, we've started an iv as well within that time. if there isn't a bed available, we make one.....
  6. Hep C exposure?

i personally wouldn't be worried about it......but most hospitals require testing and report to the employee health dept. of any and all exposures, regardless of open or intact skin. i would look up your policy and follow those procedures. that way...
  7. NGT placement

you just advanced it too far.....straight through the stomach and jejunum.
  8. patho for patient in cardiac unit

ya i agree....the two main things causing the occluded artery are the cad and hyperlipidemia....and the cad will take care of both. however, i would include the hip replacement as well. i'm assuming you're a student and i would hate for your instru...
  9. New Grad Vs. Nurse With Expereince

it really depends. if the nurse with experience has a record of several jobs in a short amount of time (i.e. someone who moves around a lot, changes jobs frequently for whatever reason), they might give the job to the new grad because most places wo...
  10. insulin but no syringe

well it can be given iv, but that also requires a syringe, just no needle. you could always have them drink massive amounts of water if you can't give sc insulin.....it will help lower the sugar a little bit, but definitely not as effective
  11. peritubal cysts

http://emedicine.medscape.com/article/795994-overview talk about ovarian torsions. it's a good thing she was already in surgery when they found it......usually they go to emergency surgery when they get the results of the ultrasound.
  12. i currently work in a hospital in newport beach. the hospital has ocean view rooms, and it's the best hospital in orange county, with the largest patient census in both orange and san diego counties. i absolutely love it there....and there is also...
  13. Mispronouncing a word makes you less of a nurse

there are definitely bad instructors out there, but generally they love what they do and know what it takes to produce good nurses. i find it odd that we're critiquing an instructor based on the REACTION of a student. we don't know everything that ...
  14. Mispronouncing a word makes you less of a nurse

there's a reason why they say english is the hardest language!
  15. Mispronouncing a word makes you less of a nurse

it is terrible the some educators do that, and i can totally see how that could be frustrating. like you said though...some things come easier to others. so it's hard for some people to pick up on speech impediments....which frustrates you because ...
