  1. Question regarding bovie settings and tonsillectomy.

I bet she is talking about the coblator and not the bovie. That makes more sense.
  2. Actual discussion between scrub and surgeon

Love all my nurses I work with! Got a call from the trauma room: Nurse: Patient is bleeding everywhere, the Neptune won't work we have tried everything! We need suction. Me: I'm coming. Nurse: Thank god, suction won't work! I go into the room, w...
  3. Question regarding bovie settings and tonsillectomy.

OK, we always use 30 for T&A's. Most use the coblator, but I'm confused. Are the settings different for you. 8 is so low, how could this even be used in a tonsillectomy?
  4. What is going on in this OR?

I'm trying to figure out the same thing. I'm beginning to second guess myself, and wonder if I'm the one who is crazy. I just can't deal with it anymore. Thanks for replying, I'm beginning to think I'm nuts. And, furthermore, I would LOVE to see...
  5. What is going on in this OR?

I really am having a tough time. Been in the OR for over 15 years. Moved to a new state last summer, and recently went back to work in the OR. I am CNOR certified. Nicest group of staff you will ever meet, but I have never seen anything like this...
  6. Prepping and other questions

Thanks for your response. I'm feeling better now like I'm not completely crazy. Bagging laps without gloves? That is just the nastiest thing I have ever heard!
  7. OR newbie needs advice

This is just awful. No wonder why new nurses aren't going to the OR. Who gives a crap about how you soak your cotton balls in betadine? Why does it matter, the only thing that matters is that everything remains sterile. I've been in the OR for 1...
  8. Prepping and other questions

Thank you for your response. It doesn't matter how long you have been in the OR, we should all be as diligent as you! You are going to be just fine. Just keep your good standards up. I'm beginning to think I'm crazy. I guess I'm just going to co...
  9. Prepping and other questions

Just recently moved to a new state and new hospital. I've been in the OR for over 15 years and just have a few questions. They do quite a few things different in this hospital and it just seems wrong, so I'm looking for some input. 1. The ...
  10. Question about Scrubbing

That's how I was taught too! I'm being told it's wrong though!!! I just don't know anymore, I guess as long as your hands are scrubbed you are in the clear! LOL:no:
  11. Question about Scrubbing

I recently moved and started a new job. I was sitting in the break room listening to a couple of employees arguing over the correct way to scrub. I'm really just curious how most people scrub after listening to this argument. Do you do your finger...
  12. What I like about OR nurses...little talk outside the bounderies

I read the threads, but don't respond much because it all seems to be the same thing. New nurses trying to get into the OR. I appreciate everyone wanting an OR internship, but there is hardly anything anymore about the actual OR. I've been in the O...
  13. Looking for instruments in the OR

I call SPD or sometimes find somebody who scrubs those cases all the time.
  14. "Really...all I need is a bovie and a hemostat"

    LOVE THIS!
  15. Specialities in the Operating Room...

Ortho is really my specialty, done it forever, and it's where I am the most comfortable. Love ortho, not sure why. ENT is my second love that service as well. I can do anything really, but I really, really dislike gyn...
