I sometimes feel as if I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I too went back to finish my RN-BScN for the same reason (although I still have 4 classes to go). I even thought about going to NP school but can't spare the time/money right now. I wi...

Hi McNeil Mama, Sorry to hear of your troubles. All I can do is offer you ideas that have worked for me. I found an epidural steroid injection very helpful, it took most of my pain away for almost a year. It did not hurt too much to have done: I took...
  3. BCIT Distance BSN PICU stream

HI there, The program went very well. It's a little heavy on the "family theory" content and a little light on the clinical hours. However, I loved the actual PICU theory, pathophysiology, case studies. My preceptor commended me and said my PICU theo...

Hi Ruby, Can you give me any advice about working with a previously herniated disk? I'm going back to direct patient care, in the ER, after three years of not really working. I don't want to tell staff in my new hospital that I have an injury, but at...
  5. ED nurse with herniated disk needs advice in changing career...

Yes, great point. Try to avoid surgery. For example, my disk had a 1 inch herniation, three years ago. That was a huge herniation. Today my disk is completely back in the space, without surgery. On the other hand, there is minimally invasive surgery ...

Hi, Glad you are feeling better. You can do whatever you like when you are not on shift as a nurse. Of course, we need to be responsible and professional when not on shift:) just don't take anything too close to your shift so that you can drive and w...

Hi there, I can relate to your pain. Sorry you're having such grief! People who have never had severe nerve pain cannot relate. My injury was now 3 years ago, the disk has healed itself (is completely back where it is supposed to be) but I still hav...

  9. RN TO BSN

Hi, I'm currently doing my RN-BScN through British Columbia Institute of Technology via distance. BCIT is in Burnaby (or near there) BC, and you can do virtually the whole program via distance. The nice thing about BCIT is it is the only institute th...

Regarding the epidural: I was 23 weeks pregnant at the time, so I was not able to have an epidural placed under fluroscopy. I had to have one done without instead. I was in such agony before the epidural. I was taking 2 Percocet every 4 hours for a c...
  11. NP in British Columbia?

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any Canadian NP's out there who can answer a few questions for me...... I'd love some information regarding practicing as an NP in British Columbia. I'm an experienced (13 years) ER nurse, with a 3 year diploma. I'm cu...
  12. BCIT Distance BSN PICU stream

Hi, Is anyone out there also taking BCIT's distance RN-BSN degree completion program? I just started with the PICU specialty track: NSPE 7100 and 7210 and would love to exchange information/insight. Thanks, Sue
  13. Nursing in Stewart, BC

I was looking up the address for Stewart General hospital for my resume, as I used to work there! Not many people can say that, as it's a small place. I worked there in the Fall of 1997 for five months, as a new grad. Stewart is very very rural. At ...
  14. Feeling so depressed....

Hi, Sorry you're having a tough time. I can relate to moving to an area that you don't care for. I moved from an island (with tons of friendly people) to California as well. I hear ya. If you are looking for suggestions, and I'm not sure you are, I w...

Thank you. That is so funny, I also started working with a personal trainer this week, first time since last January. BTW, I did have an epidural steroid injection in June and it took most of my pain away, but it is coming back. Thanks for your words...
