  1. How much does my insurance cover?

There are many nuances between insurances, too many of them, too many details. That is why offices even have one person dedicated to dealing with Insurance reimbursements and all. Coming up with a list would require full knowledge of every plan your ...
  2. mismanagement of diabetes in hospital

OP is right. I have seen and have experienced myself all of the misconceptions and really bad information nurses and the healthcare personal have about diabetes. Just to mention a few: patients being offered a lasagna, and a large bowl of carrots wit...
  3. Need advice, situation getting bad

You need money right now. Apply to restaurant jobs. Take the BSN out of your resume for jobs that do not require a degree. (managers tend to think you are going to find a nursing job a week after you start working and leave them). Try administrative ...
  4. C-Section spinal - Why husband asked to stay outside?

I have heard, not in the USA, they stopped allowing family members at al because they were having to deal with non-patients fainting and causing a lot of trouble in the OR.
  5. Growing Up Unvaccinated

I wonder if insurance companies will cover these type of ultra preventable illness on unvaccinated children who become hospitalized. I can see vaccines being a requirement in order to be insured in the future.
  6. as far as I know, institutions only want to see that BSN after your name. you can have a Phd. in Biochemistry and a ADN, and it does not seam to matter to them. I think the best shot is to get the BSN, you will need it sooner or latter. Bet of luck!!
  7. Insulin Error

I would have called the doctor for a dose adjustment. Cover yourself, unless there were an specific order saying to hold all insulin. Sometimes reducing 2 or 4 units is enough to regulate, not causing hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia.
  8. Taking away chairs from nursing station

I do not think there is a link between better charting and chairs. And that the administration is just trying to make an impression on "customers". Administration thinks that patients thinks that a nurse who seats is doing nothing. But if they want t...
  9. Taking away chairs from nursing station

Hospitals are trying to really incorporate the hospitality business model. As someone who spent years in this industry, I can say that what they are trying to do is to make a "good" impression on the patients, changing patient perceptions. I mean.......
  10. Petition for new nurses

Many new grads want to work in home care, public health, SNF and nursing homes, but guess what???? these job postings require at least one year of experience, preferably in a hospital. I am tired of hearing people telling new grads to look for work i...
  11. Kaplan helped me pass RN boards

Kaplan has a very effective study plan. Everyone in my class who did Kaplan passed the NClEX on their first try. The questions are very similar to the real questions, and when you take the real test you feel comfortable because it looks exactly like ...
  12. Why can't you get a job?

Same thing here! After countless applications and a BSN, I am employed. But not as a RN. I work for a financial institution as an administrative assistant. I still have some hopes to work as a nurse, but that hope is fading. I will probably end up wo...
  13. NSLIJ Critical Care Fellowship October 2013

    I can't find it either.
  14. Do you ever hold Lantus?

Do not hold it. Pts sugar will spike. Call MD for a possible adjustment reduction of 2 to 4 units. And check the glucose more frequently. If PT is NPO, the lanthus dosage will have to be reduced.
  15. Yes, my nursing school allowed us to use a simple calculator, but you had to show off your rationale (calculations) on paper along with your correct answers.
