  1. San Diego Area Hospitals

I would go the travel nursing route. I was just at Balboa a month ago and several of the nurses on the floor were travel. Hospital pay is lower then what you'd think for living in socal. It doesn't make up for the col (cost of living) at all. I'm pre...
  2. Is this within our scope of practice?

I agree with commuter. My only concern with it would be that they are not allowed to smoke on the patio when having it. Heard a story long ago about an LTC patient who had whisky every night and one day started himself on fire...don't even know if it...
  3. Looking for an LVN gig SoCal

There are a ton of LPN openings in North County San Diego ( Vista ) if that is not to far to drive?
  4. Reconsidering LPN/nursing after reading online blogs

Dawn674, Just understand going in that as an LPN you will not be hired at a hospital. Even hospitals that do hire a few here and there will take a veteran LPN. If your dream is to work ICU, ER etc then just understand that as an LPN you will need to ...
  5. Which hospitals pay the best in San Diego?

I do not know about the other two, but Balbao's pay is ok but not great. You are competing with a lot of "free" help they have like corpsman and Navy corp nurses.
  6. What is it like to be a nurse in a prison?

From what I have read and open positions I see open it seems like they mostly hire LVP/LPN for the med pass etc. Pay seems good though.
  7. kaplan college in Vista

chicsufs, The last I heard about the MYCAA (6K) is that it IS being offered again. They have changed it a bit. Now you can use it if your spouse is an e1-e6, w1,w1 or O1 and O2. So pretty much as long as your spouse isn't hihger ranking you can use i...
  8. HELP new LPN positive drug test

^^ I agree, as if people with valium are giving it to people at parities. C'mon now. And as an LVN the poster should know the difference in how they look. Funny story though fake as hell.
  9. what states can a ca LVN work?

^^ I think the poster understands they can't work under a CA license in another state but was asking about testing. To the OP..you will need to check with the state you are moving to. Since you have a CA LVN license you will probably only need to pay...
  10. What kills me..... (VENT)!!!

To the OP. If this site is giving you more anxiety then maybe you shoudn't post or read. Seems like all it does is give you more grief. It's an internet forum and anyone can post who wants to. Don't post if it bothers you this much.
  11. I think cutsey scrub tops look ridiculous on adult units

Wow 23 pages...holy moly...I never even thought about what others wear and I don't care to. But c'mon on now, some people on here posting like 5-10 times about this. Let it go.
  12. Lets get a current salary thread going for 09/10

You may want to post a question in the CA section but I am in San Diego and LVNs start at around $21-22 hr. Not very high compared to the COL.
  13. Meg Whitman addresses the CA nursing shortage

It seems like nothing ever changes anyway. If she wins or loses it will still be the same. No jobs for new grads.
  14. That is great and that is a high wage and is not "typical" of wages in that area for new grads.
  15. Sorry but new grad RN make around $30'hr. You can make 35-45 in socal but with much experience.
