  1. Baylor Shift still around?

The Baylor nurses at the hospital I'm at work 2-12 hr day shifts(Sat/Sun) and get paid for 36 hrs. Management says it's a good recruiting tool. They can say in the interviews that a regular full time day position 7a-7p generally does not work any ...

  3. Is this legal?

I work in two different facilities--one that has that system and one that doesn't. You get used to them and they're nice, actually. A family member want to talk to their mom's nurse? Look on the screen, locate her, call into the room and let her...

  5. And Now.....What Do You LIKE to Do At Work?

I still get a big thrill out of accessing a PICC line for blood work. It's just the coolest thing for me and the patient's always happy not to be poked.
  6. Which doc in charge of ER holding patients?

In our ER, they use separate paperwork for ER notes/actions. We have a 23 hour observation section in the ER where the info gets charted on the med/surg charts, after that it's either to the floor to be continued or d/c.

Where I work , the management says no "depressing" colors. I think that just eliminates an entire black uniform, but other than taht, no one says anything. I like to wear different prints/colors. When the patients comment on any of them, it's alw...
  8. They left my love one in the E.R. for....

At the hospital I work at, they have a 4 bed section in the back for ED Observation. The patients are still ER patients, but are not admitted. I guess that way, if the docs are iffy on admitting them, they have the 23 hours to give antibiotics, see...
  9. Anyone almost off orientation?

I just started orientation as an RN last Wed. The first day it was watching, the second day it was 3 patients, the 3rd day it was 4. So now, I'm up to 6 patients after a week. Today was the first day I actually charted something every 2 hours. D...
  10. death in numbers

Whoops, sorry. Yea, I believe it. Though sometimes it depends on how you count them.
  11. death in numbers

My grandma always said that, too. She counted it with famous people--the last was Hepburn, Hackett and Ebsen. Family members, also. Lucky for us, there hasn't been a run of family deaths lately. My grandma came from Germany, so I always figured ...

  13. NCLEX "easy" question??

Hey glow_worm, did you call the number that the NCBON website says has more recent updates? I took my test on a Tuesday(in June) and by Friday was able to call the number and they at least could tell you whether you passed. you had to have a push b...
  14. New NCLEX format!!!!!!!!

I took the NCLEX-RN in June, 2003. Even though they did show the multiple answer format, an addition problem and something about choosing one of 4 different quadrants in the pre-test examples, I did not have any on the actual test.
