  1. Shared Goverance

I appreciate the comments concerning Shared Goverance. I feel the same as you do, we do not get to address the real problems like staffing, patient safety, wages etc. I think management is going to do what they want to do. I still am waiting for th...
  2. Shared Goverance

We have just started Shared Goverance. I have not seen much change. The management has asked for our opinons on how to change some things that are a concern to accreditation. Scores on surveys etc. We are trying to follow best practices for our p...
  3. Wound care puzzle

I wonder if you could try normal saline wet to dry dressings for this wound. You could pack it with the wet saline gauze and cover with a dry dressing. This also would help with debridement and be cost effective. It would help the wound heal from th...
  4. Telephone Triage Stories

Triage is a different world for nursing. You have to know what questions to ask to get the information you need to help the patient . We have 3 great triage protocol books we use. Adult , Pediactric and Women's Health. I work in a rural clinic in...
  5. MAs call themselves Nurses at my office..opinions please?

In my office where I work the MA's wear totally different colored scrubs from the LPN or RN's and our badges are clearly marked if we are MA's or RN's. Thanks
  6. Shared Goverance

What do you think about Shared Goverance in hospital settings? Has anyone attempted to try Shared Goverance at their hosptial? Does it work or is it just a way to keep nurses from forming unions?
  7. Nursing, the field of medicine or customer service?

I am sorry to hear about your illness too, Lamazeteacher. I hope you feel better and they figure out what is wrong. I am also sorry to hear ,you as a nurse, had such a bad experience. I feel people do understand their bodies better than we do, sinc...
  8. I wish we had charge nurses that would actually help with tasks. On my floor they also take patients so that they do not have to help other nurses with tasks. They apparently get paid more also. It is a shame that this happens more frequently than no...
  9. Concerned Dad !!!!

I hope it works out for you chascal. I think your daughter should not have to change her major if she had already been accepted into the Nursing program. Go talk to the Dean of Nursing and have her push the issue.
  10. I agree that the CNA's do not realize how many times we do tech stuff that they are not aware of. I also get tired of the CNA's coming up to me and telling me the patient needs pain meds, when it is to early and I have already talked to the patient. ...
  11. I agree with you there is so much for a nurse to do that is why we have CNA's to help us. I always try to stay and help clean patients if I can. It is usually easier with 2 people than 1. Usually after you change the bed and turn them the CNA's can t...
  12. stressed..other nursing options??

I think that every nurse who has worked the floors, has had these same issues. I feel that it is because most nurses are required to work 12 hour shifts, I feel this is unnecessary. I feel this leads to more burn-out, no time with your family, more a...
  13. I wish that both techs and nurses would get report on all the patients on the floor. I think than everyone would be aware who needs help and why. We have to get to a point of team work and help everyone.
  14. Concerned Dad !!!!

I would think your daughter would not have any problem getting into a 2 year ADN program or LPN program at this point. She has not wasted 2 years. Maybe your daughter is also grandfathered into the program since she started before they decided to rai...
  15. Nurses, Clients and Power

I agree with MoopleRN, the patient is the boss of their own care. I try not to make someone do something they don't want, but I do explain the conseuqences of refusing and we have sometimes made them sign a form for refusal of certain care.
