  6. Please Help I Need Some Advice

Yes, the hosp I work for does ask you when you are available and call if someone calls in or asks you if you can take a shift. They require us to take at least one shift per month. It's a pretty good deal if you don't mind being kind of "on call".
  7. Nurses pushing a PCA pump for a patient?

You did the right thing. This is a diff situation. But it is suppose to be for the Patient to decide if they need the med or not. Not at the nurse's choice. If a patient is in severe pain. He/she Will push the button. We were stressed in nursing...
  8. family thinks I'm MD

This happens to me all the time. Either someone at church or a family member. But if I give advise it's like the question what I say. So I just tell them to call their doc or use something otc.
  9. Stopping smoking? What helps you

I myself do not smoke. But many of our patients have quit using that new drug-Chantix. Maybe you should give this a try.

One of the cool things about being per diem nurse-is -you can tell them no if it going to be when you are out of the country. Now-some places require that you take at least a certain number of hours or shifts in a certain length of time. So keep t...
  13. MA's being used as "nurses"

I am a LPN and have worked with some MA's in the past in a clinic. I think it just depends on the state. Because in Illinois, they allowed the MA's to take phone messages and such but did not allow them to give injections and such...
  14. New Grad - Big Decision!

Well, I would probably start out in the Telemetry unit. That is going to get you some great experience! Which maybe you will be able to get on days if an opening comes up.
