  1. L&D nurses - different viewpoints on birth

Things do need to change and I plan on continuing to fight the good fight after graduating with my CNM. For now, I strive to be the best patient advocate that I can be so that my families can have the type of birth THEY desire.
  2. Patients Passing Stools During Labor

Ditto what bagladyrn said. Most of my mamas aren't really even aware of it happening when it does. I just reassure them that if it happens, it just means they pushed correctly!
  3. It's not as drastic as the title implies, but some days it truly feels that way. Upon graduating, I worked in med-surg for almost 2 years, then switched to postpartum for a year. Now I'm on L&D (where I really wanted to go in the first place) an...
  4. Midwifery in the military

I have considered this as well! Hopefully someone with more insight will chime in. :)
  5. I Feel Horrible! Confused! Dont know what to do!

I agree. Orientation is a probationary time for both the employer AND employee, and it's not unusual to determine things aren't a good fit. Take up this opportunity. It took me almost 2 years to get into Mother-Infant and 3 years to get into my dre...
  6. How do you know if you suck? ;-)

What a perfect thread! I have experience in Med-Surg and Ante/Postpartum/Baby and have been on L&D since April. I'm still in orientation there and will spread my wings in September... I definitely have days where I feel completely inadequate!! ...
  7. Vocera or Alternative?

We just run the halls! This is a new place for me and my previous workplace used Ascom phones. I really wish we had something because it is inevitable that I am unable to find anyone whenever I need immediate help.
  8. Actually joined the AHNA

I've actually never heard of this organization before. I'm going to look more into it and possibly join as well. Thanks for sharing! :)
  9. Frontier School of Midwifery - Class of 82...anyone with me?

Oh yes, I should clarify that my 6 months RN experience is in Med-Surg :)
  10. Frontier School of Midwifery - Class of 82...anyone with me?

Tanya, that's more than enough experience. :) The general requirement is 1 year of Nursing in any field. I actually got in with 6 months RN experience because I also have experience working in Mom/Baby as a CNA (while I was in RN school), have e...
  11. difference between CNM and CPM

I haven't looked into CPM programs either, but is it possible that they are covering more because the student doesn't have the medical background? It would seem like an RN would definitely have a head start in that department.
  12. Hug a Midwife - It's National Midwifery Week!

  13. Frontier School of Midwifery - Class of 82...anyone with me?

Thank you! Congrats to you as well! :monkeydance:
  14. Help Please

I say go for the CICU floor. It sounds great and the benefits are huge when you have kids. I have a 13 month old and work 3 12 hour shifts (days), and it actually works out pretty nicely. Certainly being away for those 3 days is hard, but then you ha...
  15. What jobs are there for a BS nursing degree but no license?

I believe the same applies for my state (Virginia) as well. I know you can work as a Patient Care Tech (basically a CNA) while enrolled in school, but I don't believe you can seek out a CNA-type job after the fact.
