  1. smallpox vaccine

When people come in with small pox it's much clearer than chicken pox. They get a unique rash on their upper torso that spreads outward. And when they come into the hospital they'll be ICU admissions. They'll be real sick. There are other sympto...
  2. CPNE,....Anyone have any neg. experiences

Wow, all these tips are right on! I wish I would have known about this site before I took the CPNE. I passed the first time. But I had to repeat one of the lab requirements IVPB! I was so nervous I couldn't think straight. The next day I passed....
  3. What Nursing Shortage?

A lot of good points being brought up here. But the fact remains there is a huge turnover of nurses. The job is so mentally and physically demanding that some cannot or will not keep up the pace. I've been saying it's a good time to be a nurse l...
  4. If you're drawn into it perhaps it's the human element that's of interest. You get immediate feedback from your patients. A lot of nurses are drawn to that stressful environment. Perhaps a dysfunctional family life has 'set them up' for working v...
  5. smallpox vaccine

At my hospital we would care for a patient who has small pox only if we ourselves have had the vaccine. It's hard to be motivated to take the vaccine. On the other hand, you can take the vaccine after being exposed to someone who has smallpox and be...
  6. They say incident reports point out a problem in the system. Perhaps there is something wrong in the system! (Not necessarily the RN's fault). What if incidents occur on days where the unit is understaffed? Look at the move towards needleless sys...
  7. It's probably stupid of me, but shouldnt' "school" be where you learn how to do something, and be supported in your "mistakes"and guided?
  8. I love all of these! You guys are good. Sometimes if I'm frustated I tell my cat he's "BAD KITTY!" but he doesn't seem to believe I mean it.
  9. Silliness is good. Puns are really good. Singing "I wish I was a rich man, or "I was born under a wandering star" Food is good. Deoderizer is good. Taking a walk thru a busier unit is good. Petting the hospital pet is good. Looking at a firema...
  10. What makes a good nurse?

If you want to see life at it's best and worse you will enjoy being a nurse. And if you believe that first you will do no harm, you will be a good nurse.
  11. "Are my testicles black?"

    That was good.
  12. I like to watch my patient breathe and match my breathing to theirs, while I push IV meds. This way, I never push meds too fast, (usually) and I'm focused and relaxed for 60 seconds. Just a thought.
  13. Profile of a independent learner

I liked not having to park, or sit in a classroom, or get notes from a missed class, or that lecture by a speaker I didn't care for, but I did miss having classmates. Finished with AAS from "Regents" in 1998
  14. Working in another country

Thanks for responses. I get a feeling of freedom knowing I can go other places. Language can be a barrier. But we are limited only by our lack of imagination. (I'm parphrasing badly here.)
  15. Working in another country

Maybe just dreamining here but is it possible to work in another country (making a living as a nurse). Who out there has done it? I hear there are traveling nurse companies that will send you to Austrailia, any others?
