  1. RNC study material

The Center for Certification Preparation and Review (http://www.ccprnet.org) is a good place to start. They have study guides as well as a textbook list where a lot of the certification exam questions come from. Also, if Professional Education Center...
  2. I'm looking for a GN/RN posintion in L&D

It's an actual paper contract you sign upon accepting the job, if you break it, you will owe the hospital a specific amount (the specific amount will be on the contract). The same goes for a bonus, if they pay one. I imagine the contract is as bindin...
  3. I'm looking for a GN/RN posintion in L&D

Hi! There are several hospitals in Dallas that usually offer an L&D internship for GNs or RNs, and they are usually doing interviews in September for a January internship. Good places to look are : Parkland, Methodist Dallas, Presbyterian of Dall...
  4. OR circulating nurse

Wow. I was a L&D nurse for 12 years before I went to the OR. Odds of! It does get easier after a while, doesn't it?
  5. OR circulating nurse

It IS a lot to learn, regardless of your age. But you CAN do it. I think the best thing would be an internship or an extended orientation, if you can find one. I wish I had done it that way. I like to refer to my training as "trial by fire" My probl...
  6. I'm Very Discouraged....

I'm hoping for some encouragement here. I've made mistakes in accepting my last two jobs. The first one was in the OR at a big teaching hospital and I was over my head (I had only worked in 2 services before, now I suddenly had to know "Everything")....
  7. Want to be a L&D nurse....

When you get out of school, just make sure you look for an internship in L&D. That way, you will be the most prepared. Even after the internship, most nurses in my internship group took about a year to be "comfortable". It's definately worth it...
  8. I Really Want This!!!!

Thanks Anagray! I'm so glad that I started posting (as opposed to 'lurking'), you guys have been soooo encouraging!
  9. I Really Want This!!!!

Motorcycle mama- "When you've been in a place long enough to become cynical and assume every pregnant woman who comes in with false labor has ulterior motives (i.e. looking for an induction so she doesn't have to be pregnant anymore, looking to manip...
  10. I Really Want This!!!!

I've decided that I want to return to Labor and Delivery nursing (I had 13 years experience), I've worked in the OR the last 5 years. The place I have applied to is also running a nurse internship soon, and is interviewing new grads for those positio...
  11. Sooooo.... What if I decided to go back? (long)

Ragingmomster - Sorry, I haven't been here in a couple of days and just saw your note! I went to the interview, and I think it went alright. The Nurse Educator and Assistant Unit director were nice and seemed interested. Got to tour the unit - it wa...
  12. Time for a change........

I agree with TrudyRN, please don't give the license that you worked so hard for. You might really regret it. That way, you can go back if you needed to. I actually looked into being a Veterinary Assistant, (did you know that they call themselves "nur...
  13. How bad is "Job Hopping"?

llg - I appreciate your thoughts. Maybe it's the whole OR thing. If I find something in another area of nursing, maybe it'll 'stick'. I'm really tired of moving around. Also this last year has thought me to ask ALOT more questions!
  14. How bad is "Job Hopping"?

If you think you have had several legitimate reasons (I think)? I worked for one place 15 years, wanted a change (from L&D to OR) and did not want to transfer to that particular hospital's OR. So I went to a new hospital and worked for 4 years in...
