  1. Rn Failure!

Look into taking a "Test Taking" course. Learning to test well can be invaluable when trying to master nursing exams. Do a web search, and read as much as you can on successful test taking! http://library.austincc.edu/help/testtake/
  2. First day of nursing school.....overwhelmed!!!

Best advise: take one day at a time. It does no good to worry about all that has to be done and how can I get it all done..... One step, one day, (one hour if need be!) at a time!
  3. Anferior MI and NO order for NTG drip...

EXCELLANT post!! I do question the posted diagnosis of anterior MI with an RCA blockage I have seen right ventricular MI's bottom out with NTG--going into shock. A right sided EKG could have answered the question of whether or not this was a ri...
  4. When to buy Nursing books?

The sooner the better! I think you will find that the first week of classes you will already have reading assignments that need to be done. If you wait, there is also a chance the bookstore will run out--its tough to start out behind!
  5. What is it really like to be a new graduate nurse????

This sounds like what my diploma grad friends describe as their shool experience..... :)

  7. 3 1/2 y/o daughter won't potty......please give advice.

Since its summer--try no pants for a day or so. One of my sons just didn't take the time to notice he needed to pee--but with no pants, well it was OBVIOUS! :rotfl: We also did the tiered reward system. A "potty chart" if you will--the first row h...
  8. You could always tell them that if they provide you with a tape--you will provide them with a copy of your tape (you can give the original if you like--you've already got it trranscribed). Let them do the transcribing themselves!! And....you get a f...
  9. Sodium and potassium imbalance

I always thought of sodium and water (volume) going together, but: You can have hyponatremia in any one of three volume states: hypervolemia: excess volume with "normal" sodium so its diluted (CHF, cirrhosis, renal failure) hypovolemia (mucous membr...
  10. student with a question-

It is true that all cardiac cells have the potential to initiate electrical activity. The SA node (pacemaker) has an intrinsic rate of about 60-100 impulses per minute (the basis for "normal" heart rate). If the SA node fails (for any number of rea...
  11. New Grad in Huntington, WV

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! Best of luck to you
  12. Does anyone actually do all the readings?

:) Nursing texts are not meant to be read like a novel. A lot of students find it helpful to read the first and last sentences of each paragraph prior to lectures--reveiw any "highlight" boxes or tables, then take good notes in lecture. Any content...
  13. Everything Happens For a Reason

    Oh I love happy endings!!
  14. Which Nclex-rn Book Is Best

Look at as many as you can--I like the books that are divided up by body system--it makes it easier to use when studying for exams in school.
  15. Need honest opinions please

Math is mostly invisible to the public when it's used in nursing--but it is used daily. It can mean the difference between giving a ptient the right dose of a medication, or a possible over- or under-dose. Try to think of the "math" as dosage calcu...
