About FlipitaLPN

I'm an LPN and mom to three wonderful kids (ages 6, 4, and 1). I'm finishing up my coreqs for RN and am hoping to get into a mobility program Spring 2011, finish Dec. 2011, and start my dream career as an OB nurse.

  1. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

DoJohnson, I don't know about other campuses, but the nursing secretary at Valpo said that last year, 22 people applied for 20 transition spots. And Valpo's fairly competitive, as far as scores / applicants go.... teboz, I don't think you'll have to...
  2. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

Hey teboz, I applied to the Lafayette transition program and got an acceptance letter a couple of days ago. My score was 212. Good luck! You should get your letter soon!
  3. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

Lafayette's letters went out yesterday! :yelclap: I think just RN (and transitional, I hope!), and LPN will be a couple weeks behind.
  4. Ivy Tech - 2nd year ASN schedule?

At the Lafayette campus, or possibly Valpo, depending on which (if any) I get accepted to.
  5. Ivy Tech - 2nd year ASN schedule?

I'm hoping to be accepted to the LPN to ASN mobility program at Ivy Tech. So basically I'll take a course that covers the role of the RN and in-depth assessment skills, then I'll be thrown in with the regular RN students for the last year (two semes...
  6. IVY Tech LPN to RN question

That's kind of what I figured, based on the select courses that they actually post on campusconnect at my campus (Lafayette). However, the director of the program said that the second and third semesters would be five days per week! How can that be...
  7. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

Congrats to everyone who's been accepted! That's great to hear that letters are rolling out. I emailed the director of the program in Lafayette - she said they're still waiting to get approval for a certain number of spots available, so they don't e...
  8. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

I called Lafayette today and she said two more weeks!! Wouldn't tell me the cutoff scores, either. This is a huge life change for me, and it'd be nice to know if I'm going to be looking for childcare, transportation, etc. with more than two months' ...
  9. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

Nobody's gotten any letters yet!? I thought (hoped) for sure I'd have mine by now, based on last semester's send-out dates! Why must they keep us waiting?
  10. I could use a little advice...

Kids grow up SO fast. You have the rest of your life to work and pursue your career! Your youngest will be in school in 3 years, and those years will fly by. Is there any way you could get your foot in the door and do PRN, so that when you are read...
  11. Anyone going for IBCLC?

I'm working toward becoming an IBCLC, but I think it sounds like it's going to be a loooong road. You have to have all requirements done before even applying, and I think you have to apply long before you take the test! And they're adding ed. hours...
  12. Ivy Tech Spring 2011 Applicants

I couldn't resist calling Lafayette.... She said the letters should be out "the end of September, beginning of October." I think they're programmed to say that, because that seems to be what they're all saying. I'm taking APHY 201 and Chem this se...
  13. What does a LPN & RN make their first year?

Very true. I was told by some wise nurses while I was in LPN school that LPNs learn "how" and RNs learn "how and why". Couldn't agree more.
  14. Becoming A LPN While In RN Program

I know some hospitals hire 2nd year students as "Nurse Externs", and they do pretty much all that an LPN does and get paid the same.
  15. What does a LPN & RN make their first year?

In my rural area of Indiana, LPNs start at about $14/hr in a hospital, and RNs start at about $18-19/hr. Quite a difference for doing the exact same thing.
