About Journey_On

Journey_On has 15 years experience as a BSN, RN and specializes in Mother Baby & pre-hospital EMS.

I have 14 years of nursing experience - a couple years in the hospital (stroke, IMCU, observation floor) but mostly out of the hospital. I am currently working as an RN in the hospitality industry (pre-hospital EMS and occupational health) and started a highly-desired job in Mother Baby in 2021. I have been very interested in pursuing a career in maternal newborn nursing ever since nursing school. I have been learning so much and am grateful to be working with this patient population.

    Nurse Lunch Break Survey

Area of employment: Staff Nurse in Mother Baby (Postpartum) In the last five shifts at work of more than 5 hours, how many of them did you take a lunch break of 30 minutes, uninterrupted: 5 (but I do occasionally get calls/texts on my work phone...

Any nurses who are autistic (2/13/24)

I am. Communication is hard sometimes - sometimes things I want to say don't come out right or I end up sounding like a fool. Also not being able to socialize or talk with other nurses on my unit as "good" as I want to because I am so busy with ...

    Welcoming New Nurses

I think we have moved to a more welcoming, mentoring attitude. At least on my unit it feels that way. We have a lot of newer, younger nurses, and the general vibe is chill, so I think that has a lot to do with it.

Any INFJ nurses in nursery or postpartum?

It's been several years since I took the Myers-Briggs test, but upon a quick overview of each of the preferences, I would probably put myself as an ISFJ, which is slightly close to yours. I wanted to answer because I could sort of relate in that...

    CPI Cert?

I also am wondering where to get CPI certification because the really expensive options are the only ones I've seen as well. Like the OP, I suspect they have to pay for it because their agency requires it or it is required to pick up jobs in cer...

Med Surg to Lactation Consultant Advice

I am not a lactation consultant, but I would recommend starting to look for jobs in L&D and postpartum. I personally would recommend postpartum because a lot of what we do is newborn care education, a LOT of which includes bottle and breast feedi...

Do you regret becoming a nurse?

There was a time in my life I sort of regretted it, but I know it's because I was burned out by working med-surg type places in the hospital, and that's not what I ever wanted to do. Now I work on mother baby in the hospital (the job I wanted si...

Women's Health Nurse Practitioners being phased out?

You're welcome - and congratulations! Oooh, thank you for the tips. They are validating. I am in no rush to leave bedside myself (enjoying Mother Baby). As far as going for my NP, I go back and forth. I'm satisfied in my jobs, but I often w...

Women's Health Nurse Practitioners being phased out?

I too, have noticed there are way more FNP programs than WHNP. I personally feel like I would go for WHNP because it matches more with your goals. Perhaps if you feel later you want to widen your scope of practice, you could add on a FNP post-gr...

    Antepartum new grad

(I work in mother-baby, but I float to antepartum occasionally.) I feel it would be a great area as a new grad, and yes, esp. if you want to work with women and babies. The babies you will work with there won't be born yet 😉 - however, you will ...

    Adding Robots to Help Nurses?

We are actually in the process of launching a robot to *assist with* discharge education teaching. I am very excited to see how she works - I hope she saves us time because discharge education on our unit is long.

    RN Looking into MSN-FNP

Hello Katherine, I think you should look into Frontier Nursing University. It is all distance-based with two on-campus visits to Kentucky. I feel like their mission statement aligns with your dream. Best wishes to you! 🙂
  14. I can’t speak too much for L&D, as I have only floated there a couple times, but maybe look into a postpartum unit? I do not feel it is super stressful. As for nursing skills, they will come back to you in your orientation - prior to my post...

    Did not pass COHN-S

For any nurses out there who did not pass the COHN-S exam the first time..... I know info about retesting will be sent to me by the ABOHN, but did you have to wait the full 8-12 weeks until you received anything from them? And how soon afte...
